Watch the last game on film. take two watches with a start-stop timer. There was no domination just an own goal and a mix-up between a defender and his keeper. who both are non-starters simply filling for injured mid-fielders.

One of the FHS players told me that the field was really muddy but was suprisingly firm in some little patches on the field, at least to the point where you dont slip and fall but just like a little slide. Regardless It still looked rough when it came to their footing.

Rummel, Dutchtown, Brother Martin, Jesuit, Foutainebleau, Caddo, Mandeville - all quality teams that any squad would have a tough time with. But St. Pauls loss all of them. Every big game they have had thus far they have loss. Their biggest win of the season is probably the recent shut out against Northshore, and then how big of a win really is that. I agree they have progressed but nothing's changed. Another big game for St. Paul's to prove's themselves and another disappointment. O yea and isnt Fountainebleau undefeated in district play. I don't see how anyone other than a St. Paul's player can predict themselves the favorite in this game

I hear Ponchatoula shut down the FHS forwards last Friday, keeping Brooks off the board for the second time this season. Also that SPS is playing much more as a team as the season has progressed and more organized on defense. I like FHS, but I think it will be hard to beat SPS four district games in a row dating back to last year. But then what does a guy from Baton Rouge know about northshore futbol?
SPS 2-1

SPS 2-1 FHS has multiple people that can score goals for them, so shutting down brooks is not really that big a deal. Shutting down the forwards is nothing to be proud of if fhs has goal scoring midfielders, which they do. Overall, fhs is a better team, and if they play their game they should beat sps again--if they play their game.

I love it when teams are expected to win like this. It makes the underdog's job so much easier, and sooo much more fun.

FHS - 5 St Pauls - 4
awesome game to watch. very back and forth, and the field definitely played a factor in the game. SPS came out and scored 2 quick, nice medium range goals, FHS answered back with 3 goals from inside the box. Half is 3-2 FHS. Then frankie scored a PK for sps, and tied it up at 3-3. FHS got another from Brooks, 4-3. Sps got ANOTHER from i forgot who but 4-4. Then Brooks hit a game winner 5-4. Game got scrappy at the end with fouls coming in everywhere, but that was just pure effort trying to get the ball back.
Absolutely nothing can be taken from this game except that FHS won. One team didnt CLEARLY outplay the other, because that field was in horrible shape after the girls game. SPS put up a good effort, but FHS just got a few more bounces than they did, which cant be controlled. the players of the game were either brooks with a hat trick, or GK Harris for FHS. he is only a soph i believe, and he made some outstanding saves.

Agreed FHS sophomore goalie came up huge in the second half, several breakaways gone for naught; but don't forget SPS goalie Wiedeman's play on numerous chances earlier on that kept SPS in the game. This was a hard-fought game on both sides by two teams that both showed solid skill and "want-to" all game. Could have gone either way. Good luck to both in the playoffs!

he made several big saves throughout the game, the last one kept the game from going to overtime--the couple of mistakes he made were harldly enough to warrant benching him. You try getting shots thrown at you all night and make zero mistakes

you guys are talking about the sps goalie right?
cuz fhs has a junior goalie on the bench as well.
regardless, matt harris has really stepped up to the plate and has done a great job in filling in some big shoes from last year.

d1d5fan provided a nice abridged recap of the game. I was lucky enough to be at that game, and I guess my recap will be on the more unabridged side...
I have attended many of St. Paul's away district games this year, and I would venture to say this has been their most inspired match play to date. Granted, the stakes were high and they played their most competitive opponent, FHS.
I have also attended a few other FHS games as well. I have been quite impressed with FHS this year, and after seeing Jesuit's district matchups against BM (at BM) and Rummel (both at Marconi Field and Rummel), and BM's game at Rummel, I truly believe that FHS will matchup pretty well against any of those teams (I'm not saying they would win or not). In my humble opinion, SPS had a better - albeit underachieving - team last year that could have made it to the finals. This year's SPS team doesn't seem to have the same talent or consistent drive and is less formidable than last year's squad. Tonight against FHS was what I had been hoping to see all year. Enough digression...
It was a chilly night and was forecast to rain tonight during the game. The pitch was practically black before the game because it was so muddy! This truly affected the game: I remember one pass a SPS player made to another in the 1st half where he overkicked it past his teammate who raised his hands like, "How do you expect me to get that one?" Normally, that errant pass would have sailed out of bounds, but instead it went past the guy and then stuck in the mud before going out of play. A third teammate was able to regain possession...On several leads, a great pass would be zipping along to where a player was timing his break to the goal, when all of a sudden the ball would just quit in the mud. It seemed to be a very heavy ball throughout the game.
SPS came out onto the mud at the beginning of the 1st half with a noticeable focus and determination unlike I've seen in their other games this year. Both GKs, Ross for SPS and Matt for FHS had their hands full tonight and gave great performances (considering the field conditions) at times throughout the game.
In the 3rd min., FHS #10 had a shot on goal that was saved by GK. In the 5th min., SPS #7 had a sweet one-timer shot off a pass that was saved by GK. SPS then ended up with a corner kick that made it to #19 whose shot went left of the goal. In the 6th min., SPS #3 had a great opportunity, but his shot ricocheted off left post and rebounded to #9 whose shot was easily saved by GK.
In the 16th min., SPS #14 put the game's 1st goal in top left corner of net in a wild play that started with a SPS throw-in that was headed by a FHS defender who almost scored on his team, but a well-placed defender cleared it out only for the ball to find its way to #14 and his goal!
SPS 1 - 0 FHS
In the 17th min., FHS #4 took a shot that was stopped in a nice save by GK. In the 18th min., FHS #5 took a shot that was easily collected by GK.
In the 19th min., SPS #7 scored a goal in a rebound off a corner kick!
SPS 2 - 0 FHS
(Did I mention SPS came to play? This score seemed to inspire FHS to get movin'! It was tough out there with players slipping all over and ball control issues...)
In the 20th min., FHS #3 took a shot that again was stopped by a nice GK save.
In the 21st min., FHS #2 scored their 1st goal in a play that started with a corner kick that ended up rebounding to him and he kind of collided (or nearly collided) with GK and ball went off #2's head or shoulder barely into net!
SPS 2 - 1 FHS
In the 22nd min., FHS #4 broke free on the left and drilled an amazing shot that GK dove for but just couldn't get to in time - sweet goal!
SPS 2 - 2 FHS
In the 27th min., SPS #16(?) took a shot that was stopped by GK with a beautiful save.
In the 32nd min., FHS #3 scored a goal in a play that really should have been cleared with ease by a defender but, alas, was not!
SPS 2 - 3 FHS (FHS #3 was involved in all three of their goals! But SPS was not going down that easy...)
In the 33rd min., SPS #10 took a shot that sailed high. In the 37th min., FHS "Chad" had a header that just missed (off a corner kick). In the 40th min., SPS #16? took a shot off a throw-in that was easily saved. In the 41st min., SPS #4 had a free kick right outside of the box and his hard shot was saved by GK.
Halftime: SPS 2 - 3 FHS
At the beginning of the 2nd Half, it started to lightly drizzle (as if the field wasn't bad enough already...) and the battle reconvened!
In the 1st min., FHS #? had a nice throw-in that went to the goal and was easily collected by GK. In the 5th min., FHS #2 took a shot that sailed high. In the 8th min., SPS #7 took a shot that went left of the goal.
In the 9th min., SPS #16 was breaking to the goal with the ball, but was taken down by FHS #14 in the box --> #14 was issued a YC and SPS #7 scored his 2nd goal by nailing a PK in the bottom left corner of net with GK diving in same direction!
SPS 3-3 FHS
In the 11th min., SPS GK struggled with an attempt to collect the ball from a FHS attacker, and in his 2nd effort, he appeared to go after and take down the FHS player instead of the ball (at least that's what most FHS fans appeared to be screaming). In the 12th min., FHS #9? had two successive shots on goal, with the 1st one being cleared out and ending back in front of him for his 2nd shot which went left of goal I believe.
In the 14th min., FHS #4 scored his 2nd goal of the night in an amazing play where he persevered and shook off the defender finally and rifled his shot in the net past the GK's great attempt at saving the shot. Excellent effort by all involved, especially #4 and GK...you could just feel that he was about to score a goal on that break!
SPS 3-4 FHS
In the 14th min., SPS #16 had a header (off a throw-in?) that missed right (I believe) of the goal. In the 16th min., SPS #7 had a great opportunity to score on a break, but the GK finally came out and charged the ball making a nice save/collect --> #7 was heartbroken, pounding his fist in the mud in disgust at his near game-tying moment. In the 18th min., SPS #7 would not be forgotten and drilled a nice long shot from the left that was slightly bobbled by GK but then saved. In the 24th min., SPS #7 took a free kick outside of the box that sailed high. In the 26th min., SPS #16 broke through the defense and took a shot that was well-saved by GK again.
In the 27th min., SPS #9? (I thought someone else scored goal, but announcer said #9) took advantage of FHS #4 resting on bench and scored a goal after getting the ball off a rebound from another player's shot (I think) --> there was so much traffic in front of goal; this play started from a corner kick.
SPS 4-4 FHS
In the 33rd min., FHS #17 lead a perfect ball to FHS #5 who missed a golden opportunity in front of net. In the 34th min., in an almost identical play, SPS #16 missed a well-placed cross from SPS #9.
In the 36th min., FHS #4 scored his 3rd goal (yes, a hat trick!) in yet another amazing play where FHS #? (Maybe #4?) took a nice shot that was saved/deflected by GK who then saved/deflected another shot by a 2nd FHS player and then GK was trying to get up yet again in time for #4's rebound goal (off 2nd save/deflection) --> I counted 2 of 3 consecutive saves, with 3rd shot finally going in!
SPS 4 - 5 FHS (If the game wasn't intense enough yet...)
(By this time, SPS #10 was stepping up his physical play because he seemed to be getting frustrated; this was a pretty physical game throughout by most everybody on field, but #10 was getting borderline dangerous)
In the 38th min., SPS #7 took yet another shot, and it was easily saved. In the 41st min. (yes, the ref apparently let this battle go longer than he should have...), SPS #10 rammed into/tangled up aggressively with FHS #4 as he was breaking down the field and #4 fell and hobbled off field. In an intense final 43min., SPS #7 was breaking and fed a sweet lead to SPS #4 who cranked out a passionate last-moment rifle shot that somehow was saved in an outstanding and crucial OT-preventing dive by GK to end game.
Final score: SPS 4 - 5 FHS
Great game by both teams, considering the conditions of the field. This game went back and forth the whole time. I agree that neither team really outplayed the other. Both GKs played well, with a nod given to FHS GK. At least that's how I humbly observed the game...
This game will go down as one of my highlights of the year, right alongside Jesuit @ BM, BM @ Rummel, and to some extent Rummel @ Jesuit, Jesuit @ Newman, M'ville @ FHS, and Jesuit @ Rummel.
I can't wait for Wednesday night's BM @ Jesuit match at Muss Bertolino in Kenner and Saturday's Rummel @ BM game...!

great summary M Unit, I was there also and you did a good job. One note as to the length of the game, I believe the game went to 43 minutes because of stoppage time. I think there was a bit of stoppage time in the first half also.

I was able to attend the match last night and I was very impressed with F-Bleau 's calm after being down 0-2... The only thing I question is how did the field get so bad... I understand it rained alot but other fields in the area are no where near that bad... It looked like a cow pasture...If it gets much worse it could affect them in the playoffs....... But great win and congrats
