It comes down to CSC and NOSA. In fairness, I think you need to add Lakeview and LFC. Don't forget that the Burn (Joey Balfour, Will Todd, Jonathan Foreman and a certain Joe Lapira for example) was an LFC team as is bottomnal which is contributing many great sophmores. But burn was a csc team that broke away. Much of their success was through csc. They just moved that whole team later on. In most age groups, csc is clearly above LFC (u-17's being the only exception i can think of). However, both of these programs supply good talent. Heres some food for thought...Last year the csc boys won: u-11 state champs u-12 state champs u-13 state champs u-14 state champs u-15 sub-regional champs, state runner-up u-17 state champs u-18 state champs And the only reason the 16's didnt win is b/c of such a dispered talent between 3 select teams.

hey pitch whats all this choice stuff. lafayette is the only team in the parish that truely benifits from the program. i am pretty sure every kid on acadiana, and cro live in there selected area. lafayetee does have some players that don't live in the lafayette area. so that is not a reason why all these teams are so good.

Obviously I can't speak for any of the individual teams/players....all I was stating is the school system policy gives them the choice...which to my knowledge no other school system is set up that way.

Maybe the schools are so close to each other that they let them decide? No idea.

I'm not from there, but seems to me that Lafayette has the best club soccer program in the state. I've seen it for ten years and there is no denying it IMHO. That translates to lots of good players, with the added advantage of choosing a school to go to. At least they are doing it with more or less the same opportunity that the rest of the public schools could have; and great credit to them for it. Either that or that swamp water has great powers <grin>. D3 is dominant due in large part to the private school thing, and anyone who denies that is fooling only themselves. What's the tuition at Jesuit these days? Some of that goes into facilities, coaching, etc. People can attend from anywhere they are willing to travel from. Do they still have the option of flexibility on tuition that they used to have, amounting to a scholarship? Add the multiple premier programs on the south shore who feed their players directly to the same team year after year and you get continuity, coaching, funding, and a generous player pool of talent that wants to tap into that (and rightly so). Schools that have big enrollments, like Fontainebleau for example, will occasionally peak like they did these last couple of years, but to remain dominant year after year is tough on the uneven playing field. But this is the way it is in this state, and I have no idea if it is the same elsewhere, but it is what it is, and everyone has to deal with it as is. That's why I will be rooting for LHS or Cro or whoever to knock of the perennial Catholic powers in this playoff.

the answer is several things 1 the youth program is great 2. the soccer facilities are second to none 3. the premier teams have steady supply of players 4. the premier teams are well coached 5. even rec coaches are encouraged to go to clinics 6 more acceptance from other sports, (football, baseball etc.)
just some of the things i think make lafayette soccer so good.

Laf. recreation program has the most players due to the fair system for setting up teams. No special "deals" between coach's. More players in a competitive system, more quality players. So when a team has some select players and some D-1 players, they are usually a good team. As far as Laf. parish being a "choice" system, you have to qualify to be in the gifted/talented program to attend Laf.High, and I don't know of any soccer players at any of the other schools that are out of their district. We're good because we play lots of soccer and help coach's and players improve @ their maximum level. Look @ how quickly Teurlings is a state powerhouse. Excellent coaching and a lot of good players showed quickly. I'm sure some of those Teurlings players would now be @ STM or Carencro if not for choosing Teurlings.
