You must carry a 1.5 gpa thru the end of last year. For freshman, they get a free pass until the end of the 1st semester (around Jan 11th). You can be eligible thru Jan 11th and if the grades do not equal a 1.5 then the player must sit out the end of the season.

No, you just have to have a 1.5. Letter grades count as points, I think. A's are 4, B's are 3, C's are 2, D's 1, and then F's 0. You add up your points and then divide by the number of classes you have. If you make 2 A's, 1 C, and 1 F then that equals 10. Divide by 4 classes and you get a 2.5. If you have over 1.5, then you can play. It's really hard not to be eligible. You have to really try to get a 1.5.

However, some school districts have their own rules in addition to the LHSAA. When I played in Jefferson Parish, there was a rule of no F's at all. It was no pass, no play. I'm not sure if that is still in effect.

It's not as simple as "just having a 1.5 GPA", though I agree that should be the easiest thing in the world to do. But you also have to have earned 5 credits. When checking credits you have to take into account Block courses vs. regular course, etc. The coach should have been trained in how to determine all this, or let the AD at the school determine this so as to not make a mistake and play an ineligible player.

If you have to ask, you can't afford it.

This year the shinguard must reach from your shoe laces to your mid chest level. They must be constructed of a titanium alloy, must be magnetic and the ref must be able to see his/her reflection in them.... :0

No rule change for this year but the rule is 2inches above the ankle and 2 inches below the knee.

rule is that it must be size and age appropriate. Must be no higher from the ankle than 2 inches. no requirement for 2 inches from knee, but again, size appropriate. must be commercially manufactured and not altered in any way. referee has final say in what is appropriate.

so there is no certain brand tht u have to get....and will the nike vapor shinguards work...or r they to small?? I would probably allow them, unless you are seven feet tall. I heard a rumor that last year a crew from the NO area went "up north" during a playoff game and would not allow a bunch of players to play due to size of shinguards. Just incase, I would keep a spare set in your bag.

in order to play grade wise, you just have to make higher than that kid who played for STM last year made.

LHSAA Grade requirements to be eligible:
Players must attain a 1.5 minimum cumulative Semester GPA, and pass a minimum of five Carnegie Units within the semester in order to be eligible to play. Semester Cumulative averages for the 3rd and 4th nine week grading period are what determines eligibility for the fall semester, 1st and second nine week periods determine the spring. Freshmen are deemed automatically eligible for the fall semester due to promotion into 9th grade.
In a regular class schedule, the student would take 7 courses for the entire semester and must pass five with a GPA of 1.5 or better. In a block schedule, the student would take 8 courses (4 each nine weeks) and would alkso have to pass five and have a 1.5 GPA--little advantage to block scheduling as you can fail 3 courses and still be eligible.
A big reminder to upperclassmen--elective courses that cannot be counted towards graduation cannot be counted as Carnegie units towards eligibility. We had a problem a a few years ago when football players took weightlifting as an elective course after they had all previously completed their PE requirement to graduate. A couple of them failed 1 course in each nine week period(we have block schedules at St Amant), and though they passed the weightlifting course with flying colors, and had a good enough GPA, they hadnt completed enough carnegie units to stay eligible.
