I'll say the best player is the little kid from Rummell, Kyle Arrigga. He had over 30 goals last year and is a fighter. He throws a mean elbow, and takes the best dive I've ever seen. He does pick up too many red cards and will have to work on that this season.

I think Jarrett Gautreau for Dutchtown is one of the best if not the best player in Division II an maybe even all of B.R.

Have to agree with Cajunboy about Jarrett--he is the real deal. Would be a starter in central midfield or forward with ANY team in the state (yes--that includes the Jesuits, and Lafayette HS), and is definitely one of the preseason favorites for Metro BTR player of the year. Two other players who come to mind are Tyler Melancon at St Amant, and Daniel Vallin at EA. Tyler is a strong striker, with blistering speed and excellent ball control. He plays as a forward with BRSC U-18's, but will probably play central midfield for St Amant. He is a superb ball distributor as well as a finisher, and will surprise many with his midfield skills. He's only a junior, and will be a Metro BTR player of the year candidate this year and next.
Daniel Vallin is the best kept secret in Division II. He has great vision, conditioning and ball skills, and is one of the hardest players to knock off the ball that I have ever seen. He is a senior and will probably Captain a very quickly improving East Ascension team. Look for him to do a lot at EA--he is working very hard to excel as this is his senior year. He definitely will be in the running for BTR all-metro.

I think the best player in any division is Bryan Dooley from STM. He is fast, has very good skills. He was the center mid for the U-18 Lafreneire team last year. He started one game as the center mid for the New Orleans Shell Shockers.

What about the best defender and the best goalkeeper statewide... The offense seems to always have the best player or do that??? The offense surely receives the recognition more then a defensive player...
So i thought we could also list the Defense and/or Goalkeepers statewide.....

I would have to say Frank Judice at Covington is one of the best if not the best defender in the state. Having to kick around against his brothers his whole life has made him into an elite defender. As far as keepers go - Tyler Milton at St. Paul is the best on the Northshore. I'm not sure how he compares statewide but he is a real good one.

good player but not the best. they prepared for him because numerous players from rummel have played with him, and they know what an advantage it can be...

I think Mark St.Sier or however of you spell of Lafayette it will become any excellent defender very quickly. Last year as a soph. he started varsity. He makes mistakes, but his unbelievable speed makes up for it. I think this year will be a good year for him.

Mark is good. Like u said he does make mistakes at times, but most sophmores starting varsity on the best team in state will do that every so often. I played ODP with him a few years ago and i was impressed with the progess hes made through the years. He'll need to step up this year though because Lafayette will need him to be strong after losing most of their defence.

I don't think that this year there is one player who stands out yet as the best player in the state. I think you can go by position and pick out who would be the best players. I saw Arriaga (sp?) play for Rummel quite a few times, and eventhough he is good, I think Belfour from Lafayette is better. Belfour has better break away speed and a better since of how to play the position of striker, imho. As far as best overall, I think it will be a center mid that will establish himself during the season.

Look for Ross Thevenot of St. Louis to stand out big time this year.

Lafayette High has some...Belfour, Kevin Carter, Josh Menard, Blake Hardy can content....but also i think for Division II...look for Steven Hernendez, hes a great player and Ross Thev will is a good player...along with division one is Jesuit and Rummel with outstanding midfielders and forwards
