About private vs public schools. I have children at both public and catholic schools (not private). We are hard working parents that chose to send our children to the schools that we thought was the best place for them. They are both athletes in there own rights. I think that there is alot of misconception on both sides about the motives and reasons for the choices that parents make. In regards to stacking the teams and money issues it doesn't hold water. I've seen tremendous talent on all of these teams and I really think it gets down to the teams the has the most WILL TO WIN. Period!!

Mandeville has 1 NOSa, 2 Laker, and 4 rec plus seniors. The rest of the team is a similiar combo. Mandeville is also one of the very few "blue ribbon" academic public high schools in the"nation". People go there for an education first, it just so happens that they play great soccer as well. Mandeville Soccer Club is active, and produces many great rec players. We're loaded with them. Why are they so good? Wendy Corales, their coach, is 26, was born with a soccer ball stuck to her foot, and knows who to coach, motivate, and control young teeenager girls. Being in the state finals 4 of the last 5 years is no accident. It takes a great coach guiding great talent. Period...PS: Wendy did all this while teaching, and with a baby that to date is maybe 6 weeks old! Go Wendy, go Skippers!

Catholic schools are considered private schools. Ask LHSAA, or better yet, you pay tuition, don't ya?
And YES..... catholic schools recruit.... bt,dt

go wendy?? It's not the coach who is playing. It's the athletes who do all the work. Mandeville's coach was not even there much. It was the love of the sport and wanting to win that put mandeville in the finals. Good luck skippers in state!

[glow=red,2,300]TEXT[/glow]i totally agree ppl always say that the coaching is what wins games.. thats BS.... coaching can only bring u so far but the coaches arent playing on the field.. they arent the ones having to run and play.. anyone can sit on the sidelines and call the selves "COACHES".. i have seen many soccer teams win tournaments, games, and state championships and people claim that it was all b/c of "coaching." i dont think its the coaching i think its all TEXT.. b/c with out the hardworking and determined PLAYERS.. their coaches wouldnt be able to claim their victory or victories

I am doing this again as I muffed the first one. Desire and hustle and talent are a must at any sport. So is coaching. IF not, why do the pro's pay all that money for coaches, most who start at the high school level and work up, most who were former players, as Wendy from MDS? Wendy does this for the love of the girls and the sport, as the extra school pay she gets is not the motive. MSH would not be where they are today, and for the last 4 years without Wendy's ability to coach, motive, and control twenty teenage girls, all with tremendous ability. Nothing away from the players, my daughter is one, OK?

yea ok, As for the money,no one mentioned anything about the amount she was being paid. As for pro players, that's a whole different level. High school soccer is practically worthless due to the fact they most of these players learn from their rec and club teams. Most of these pro players did not start at high school level because if they did, the skill level would not be nearly as good as it is. These players also have played since they could basically run. Also, i would like to state that it is a little immature for a parent to be defending and writing on this site. MHS by the way, could just as easily gotten this far today with a different coach. It's the abilities of the players that matter. Motive?- or did u mean motivation? love? somehow i don't see that!

don't know the mhs coach personally, but saw this evening that she was definitely out-coached. she used melissa, for example, in the wrong place: defender, while two goals down. wendy is surely not a candidate for coach of the year!

the reason she could have been at defender was to uphold some respectability. if she had changed to forward, they may have let in more goals.
