I want to congradulate the lady tigers for a great season. It is never a good feeling when you lose but their fans should be very proud of those girls. You guys should build upon this season and use the experence that you got and take it to every one next year. Neville has most of their starters coming back and along with miss Sanders and miss cando everything Crews they will get another shot at State. Watch out for the 2007-08 Tigers. You're alumns are proud of you!

Congratulations to SSA on a very impressive result. I didn't see everybody play this year, but I still think SSA may be the best team in the state in any division. Good luck in Div. I next year.

Looks like the SSA and STM was the state championship game?

sportfan, I assume you are referring to the 5 -0 score in the actual championship game. You are correct in saying that the semi-final game between STM and SSA was a more evenly matched game but I think it is disrespectful to insinuate Neville should not be considered the state runner-up. Yes, Neville was outmatched, but they worked hard through their bracket and deserve the recognition they achieved.

I am not disrespecting Neville...but come on 5-0 in the championship game. That is about the same as getting beat 49-0 in the other kind of "football" and plus the game was at your house.

Neville did a great job this season. They could beat any public school in the state. SSA being a private school can assemble a team from anywhere. Neville has to develope the players in its own district. Congratulations girls for a great season!

Neville had a fine season and deserve congratulations. However, let us quit beating that private school mule to death! SSA does not assemble a team from anywhere. Most of the kids on the team play in the Mandeville Soccer Club with kids from Fontainebleu HS and Mandeville HS. They were not "recruited" they just chose to attend SSA. Having played both "public schools" Fontainebleu and Mandeville, Neville would not stand a chance against either team. Develope the good players you have and quit offering up apologies and excuses. That does little to improve the kid's confidence.

Yes Neville did good to get to the finals. They did what they had to do on their side of the bracket. So did SSA.
However, It seems like an excuse being a public school and not winning. Insinuating that the catholic/religious based high schools go out and recruit for girls soccer. That is total baloney, people do not seen their kid to catholic or other religious based schools so that they can play on a good girls high school soccer team. And in the same respect schools don't go out and look for good female players to ensure the fact that they will field a good team.
So don't discredit the accomplishment of SSA, just because they are a parochial instituition.

The fact is,a lot of teams get players for sports. Yes parents will lie or move so their child can play on a winning team. Neville has at least two players that moved from one H.S. to Neville for soccer. The Crews girls do not even live in the same school system as Neville, but were allowed to go to Neville for soccer. The problem is LHSAA knows and approved this move. If you do not believe this, ask LHSAA about it.

As opposed to all this bashing, is there a game report somewhere? Can someone write one up or maybe connect me to a link?

For the one's speaking on this issue - the issue to me is not the private vs public but the depth of the pool of talent from the much more populated area of I-10 and south as compared to our area in Monroe. We have no premier teams and did not have enough kids to fill out a DI travel team in the U-17 age bracket - that is sad for our area! We have some wonderful atheletes and if they had the soccer exposure and playing together all year it would make a difference. We are not deep skill wise and when Alex Loomis went down it was a huge hole in our line-up and to me was the biggest factor in the score. Before someone says anything about that - I am not saying we would have won the game with her - but it would not have been as bad or we might have scored a goal or so -it would have changed the flow of the game somewhat. It makes it tough to compete with the dedication of the girls in the south - more power to them and they deserve the championship - but do not degrade another team by the score of one game.
See everyone next year!

This is to the daughter of the coach at this rival school who graduated last year and I believe was even red-carded her last game trying to hit someone in the playoffs last year. This is a complicated issue but we were asked to leave the school district she is referring to due to where we lived. The school zone we lived in does not offer soccer as a sport and we met with the LHSAA several times to resolve this matter. This was approved - and we had to sit out 7 1/2 weeks my daughter's freshman year to wait for the decision. Also please talk about the class of your program and how the LHSAA office told me of the calls every week to stop a 14 year old from playing soccer after your sytem told us to leave! Grow up - it is over 2 years ago and sorry she did not play for your school.

Mung, the bottom line was the game was very one sided, could've been worse actually and I'll leave it at that. Taking nothing away from Loomis, I don't think it would've changed anything very much. I think the point someone was trying to make earlier is that the teams need to be seeded, clearly the top two teams in D2 were STM and SSA. Neville did what they were supposed to do, won all their games and made it to the finals, a huge step for Neville. Please, I don't want to take anything away from Neville they deserved to get to the championship in the system that is in place, but clearly their is some room for improvement for the play-off system in this state. The final was anti-climatic to say the least.

Neville you had a great year. You are the 3rd best team in Division II that is something to be proud of. And phsmom you can say it all you want but Lafayette, Fontainebleau, Barbe are just a few of the public schools that can beat Neville.

I agree, the teams need to be seeded. The two best teams played in the semifinals. Good luck to them on Division I.

I agree that neville did a great job .It was nice to see our District Champs go to the finals. We will look forward to playing you next year agian.I agree lets do some seeding and I'm sure the private guys will have fun playing in 5AAA next year.Maybe then the Finals will be climatic. No discredit meant but if you think private don't have a advantage then you would have no problem with them playing in there own Division say 6AAA.So call LHSAA and say so.That is what they have done in football. So why not all sports.

The "most exciting" game may (at least to some) have been SSA v STM but the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP was SSA v Neville. Neville is a classy program, and their girls worked hard to get to the state championship....Congrats to all the players on Neville, and a quick recovery to Loomis! And of course, congratulations to SSA on a well-deserved championship!
As for recruiting, I do not know of one girl on SSA's team who was recruited, and I would be very very very surprised if I found out otherwise. In fact, I don't know that the school even allows financial athletic recruitment. Just as I hate to see people shifiting the focus away from Neville's accomplishment, it really bothers me to see people attributing SSA's success to recruitment--the girls are just really talented and passionate, and they have great chemistry. Please don't minimize a truly outstanding year for them by insinuating that they did not achieve it through merit, but through financial incentives.

well not saying this happened but what about people not with the school recruting. it happened to me for the 2 years i went to private school. friends on the soccer team going "hey girls you guys should come here so we can all play together." not saying they got scholarships or anything but if they play select they have to have some money so it may be easier for them to attend such a school. i mean if a team is pretty much all from the same premier team and they play year round together, they should beat teams that have players that only play high school 5-0
