had to see it to believe it. griffins outplayed northshore with lots more shots on goal. a second half goal on a corner kick was disallowed after a northshore player spoke to the referee. ball clearly went thru the keepers outstretched arms into the goal. big momentum change. northshore players and fans alike seemed to be stunned that their team actually scored.
after the game, district 6's leading scorer was taken by ambulance to the hospital. found out about this because of all the commotion in the parking lot. in hindsight, amazed she was even able to play at all. prayers for a speedy recovery.

I have no idea which game you were watching diverdo. It wasn't the game I was watching. I totally agree with mcarules. Mandeville received about 20 free kicks to MCA's 1. The Refs totally took MCA out of their game. All calls close went against MCA. Anytime anything was close it went against MCA except the one MCA scored on. Anytime MCA got any momentum the refs were there to kill it. You probably agree with the 3 consecutive yellow cards against MCA on three consecutive plays as well. I think Mandeville had 3 weak shots on goal the entire game. What was scary was all the free kicks so close to the goal and the corner kick at the end of the game which was clearly kicked out by Mandeville. The game wasn't near as close as you think. It is tough to play a very good team and the refs at the same time.

To my poster "mcarules," please allow me two things. One, I would like to congratulate your team on advancing to the second round. I wish you the best against Baton Rouge. Two, I would like to set the record straight. On the very first e-mail that I received from Mr. Boudoin, your athletic director, about the first round match, he indicated that he had reserved Muss Bertolino for 7 pm on Friday, February 1st. Any request to play earlier was never made and never received. I never once spoke with either of your coaches about the match; every communication was between Mr. Boudoin and myself. At no time was it suggested that the match needed to be played earlier in the week for any reason at all. Be proud that you won tonight, but let's not make things up. Congrats again to the Cubs, and I couldn't be prouder of each of my Lady Skippers!

I think most at the game tonight can agree that although MCA was the favorite going into this game, Mandeville was clearly the more aggressive team and won most of the balls with more hustle than MCA. MCA is fortunate to have a great deal of talent in most positions on the field and did manage to win despite playing extremely flat. Plain and simple, MCA's win was not pretty and they will need to improve their performance in the next rounds to advance.
As to all the smack talk between mcarules and diverdo, the better teams tend to rise above excuses in the PLAYOFFS -- even when the excuses include 'Gym night, panties to tight, ref card happy, AR just plain nappy, wrong night, fields bad, out-coached, cold and mad'
Mandeville deserves a great deal of credit for their play tonight but I still believe the better team won.

To set the record straight, the officiating of this game was the worst I have seen in a long while. Mount Carmel was practically playing Mandeville along with the referees. Yes Mount Carmel did have some calls made in their favor but if you were at this game you can not honestly say the referees did not help Mandeville out quite a bit. Mandy is definitely has some good players and in years to come will be a team to look out for but as for tonight Mount Carmel was the better team by far. Mandy seemed to just kick the ball which turned into a kickball playoff rather than a soccer match. That can work sometimes but it shows your lack of skill for the game tremendously. All you need to do is simply watch a guy's game and you will realize soccer is about possession and stringing passes together not "boom" ball. All the problems with "gym" night can just be let go. Yes, Esker knew what he was doing by wanting to play this game on this date but Mount Carmel also had the option to change it being the home team. In all honesty this must of been the only way Esker saw his team having a shot at beating his old school by playing them when they were tired instead of straight up. For being a tired team the girls really did their best to pull away with the win; and that is exactly what good teams do, find a way to win no matter what. Five to nothing or one to nothing a win is a win, no matter how it is achieved. I have only heard that Mandy has a young team but for those of you who do not know Mount Carmel is made up of mostly underclassmen as well with a strong sophomore class and only four seniors. So once again, congrats to the Cubs for advancing to the second round. Good luck against Baton Rouge and hopefully you have great run in the playoffs. Mandy good efforts tonight and better luck next year with a more experienced an aged team.

It is a shame that so called fans of the game can not just say Congratulations and move on. So what if the Cubs were flat. So what if it was a Friday instead of a Thursday. These girls played games (and won) against (Dominican twice, St Louis twice, Newman, Sacred Heart, LHS twice, Acadiana, Dutchtown, and now Mandeville) Give them a little credit. C'mon people, these girls( all highschool players) have been working their .... off for a long time now. Nobody deserves this kind of responces. Yes, MHS came out strong and stayed strong. Good for them. Great effort, great future. MCA played very hard too, but not up to the usual standards. That is not a crime and has nothing to do with whatever! It happens. Teams like Man.U lose to last place West Ham (at the time), and Tottenham scores five on Arsenal (!) last week. So what? Point? MCA, MHS, two very young, very motivated, very talented teams. One moves on, one is out. Congratulations to both and I am so glad we have teams and passion like these teams do. It makes high School soccer that much better.! Let's move on............

mcarules (does it stand for maximum cerebral anemia rules or minimum credability aptitude rules?), my2centsplus and fleurdelis, you guys need to give it a rest! Why do you have to denigrate another team? You won. How anyone could say that the 2nd "goal" was NOT a legitimate offsides call is beyond me - the MCA fans were about 100 yds from the call deep in the far corner with a bad angle - the Mandy fans were 30 yds closer with a less bad angle and we couldn't tell. The linesman on the far side was the only member of the officiating crew who was in position and decisive in his call. I'm sure my views are shaded to Mandy and y'all's are obviously shaded toward MCA. MCA had excellent ball handling skills, but so did the Mandy girls - why be negative? I saw just as many "kicks to nowhere" by MCA as Mandy - why be negative? My last point is that I thought it was poor sportsmanship to keep the scoreboard at 2-0 the rest of the game even though a goal was never signaled and, even though the MCA girls were justifiably exuberant about the win, the 10 minute organized victory celebration at midfield was a little over the top with the Mandy girls on the sideleines 30 yds away (that is purely a parent's point of view). This is my last reply

What the heck is "Gym Night".
Sounds like MCA fans are complaining about the game being played after Gym Night....are you serious?

What happen to the young lady from district 6'S leading score Did Cruthirds not play? I would like someone to give a recap of the Northshore/Dutchtown upset. Here is a little recap of the Dutchtown/Northshore contest: If there is one thing for certain, come playoff time, if you don't bring your 'A' game, you will be exiting early. Northshore brought their 'A' game, Dutchtown did not - result Northshore 1 Dutchtown 0. 1st Half - Game was pretty much played in the midfield until Northshore forward launched a shot from about 20 out that hit the crossbar, this shot apparently woke Dutchtown up a bit, as they began to up the attack. Northshore played extremely solid defense, which forced the Lady Griffins to work hard for every shot they were able to get. The first half ended 0-0, with Dutchtown leading in SOG 8 - 2. 2nd Half - Dutchtown came out much more aggressive on the attack and the majority of the second was spent on Northshore's defensive 3rd. However, Northshore's defense would bend but not break. Several good shots by Dutchtown found iron as Cruthirds and Gibbs found the crossbar and the post. Jimenez missed on a rebound off the crossbar with a header that went over on an open net. The deadlock finally seemed to be broken when Leanne Johnson curved a corner kick from the left side inside the post for an apparent 1-0 lead. However as teams were lining up at mid-field, the center waived off the goal on a mysterious obstruction call. There were several bodies in the box, and there was no real attempt for the ball by anyone, including the keeper until the ball had already broken inside the post. Less than 4 minutes later a breakdown in the D-Town defense allowed a Northshore attacker to get in behind and she banked a shot of the far post which went in for the game winner. Dutchtown had several more opportunities prior to the end of the game, but fell short of finding the back of the net. Dutchtown finished the game with a 19-6 edge on SOG, but the one that counted came from Northshore. Congratulations to the Lady Panthers of Northshore on a great game, and an extremely impressive defensive performance. Good Luck in the rest of the playoffs. Now to Cruthirds: Chelsea began to have problems midway through the first half with her calf muscles locking up. At half time I worked on them to try and loosen them up, however they continued to be tight. With about 10 minutes to go in the 2nd half, Chelsea went down on the field with both calf muscles locking up on her. She was taken off the field opposite the bench side, where several of us worked on her calf muscles for quite some time. Could not get the tremors in her left leg to stop and could not get her right leg to loosen. She was taken by ambulance, where IVs were started, to a local hospital. I contacted her dad about an hour after the game completed, and they had just completed giving her a second bag of fluids. He told me she was doing fine now, and that the tremors in her left leg had stopped and the muscles in her right had finally relaxed. Happy to report that Chelsea is doing fine now. Thanks to everyone for the thoughts, concern and prayers, I know Chelsea and her family really appreciate it.

Now your finding things to blame MCA for diverdo. If that bothered you so much file a complaint to Muss Bertilino. They control their equipment, Mount Carmel just played the game. Games over. Move on...
