If, the game is not counted, then just give the teams Co-Champ awards. Maybe, make it Quad Champs. Give everyone that made it to the Semi's a championship. Come on guys this is not the first tournament that was won by a team many think did not deserve it. Menard won so give them their due.

If I understand correctly, this final was by the "golden goal" method; The team with the first goal wins. Do we count it as an official game? If game was golden goal, then it shouldn't count. Personally, I don't think any tourney game should. There is a huge difference between a 60 and 80 minute game. A golden goal game is completely unreliable. Barely better than rain out tourneys decided on penalties. Agreed, i think golden goal games should not count, it is not a whole game played. It changes strategies up that teams usually use for standard match rules. You can't compare the game to games played with the standard rules. Though this isn't to take away from Menard, they won the tournament fair and square, congrats to them.

Some people are getting a wrong idea about my question. My question was completely of a technical nature. I congratulate Menard for the championship, and I don't mean to take anything away from them. Menard won the championship. For Power Ratings and other results, whether the game is counted or not is my question.

goose1 i don't think thats what they are talking about Menard is the champs, no question, congrats by the way. I think they are talking about counting it as a complete game for stats and strenght of schedule reasons thats all. By the way it was nice meeting you too and congrats on the wins!

Yeah. All credit to Menard as champs. But don't count the game as a W for any other reason.

Look at the Poll on top of this page. NO ONE picked Menard. This tells us how little we know about high school soccer. ;D

The Game went past halftime, therefore it should count either way. Both teams chose to count the game and chose this way to do it, so it counts.

Thanks to all teams and to all of you for your great comments about the tournament. It was a HUGE success and we will definitely be hosting it again next year. I may move it up one weekend to avoid ACT testing though. So start planning for the second weekend after Thanksgiving. I will start sending out invitations in March! Who knows... we may have to increase the number of teams next year! Great meeting all of you and putting faces to the names on this board. See you guys (and gals) in the near future!

It seems to me, for statistical purposes that a win is a win and loss is a loss. Statistics by its very nature don't count the quality of the win or the nature of the loss. Menard and Teurlings both agreed to this method, therefore their record should reflect the outcome. Once you start qualifying a win or loss, you set yourself up for lots of problems. Just an opinion.

For my Power Ratings purpose, I decided to count this game as a completed one. Beauchenecoach made an interesting point, which I didn't realize. They played more than one half of a whole game. If a normal game had to stop at that point (1-0) due to any reason (inclement weather, etc.), it would have been a complete game. Though Top 10 and Schedules/Results threads are not anything official, I counted this game also. If any moderators or the administrator disagree, please PM me.

I don't think that the NOSaints loss in OT should count either since it is also a golden goal loss ---LOL

Whether the game went past half is irrelevant to me since the game was played under rules that are fundamentally change the way the game is played in a way that makes this game unfit to be compared to other games. Except as to this tournament and between these teams, it is also irrelevant that the teams agreed in advance. What if team A and B played under rules, agreed in advance, that the first team to score 2 (or whatever is agreed to end the game) wins so long as more than a half is played should count? Still OK? It seems to me that you gotta stick with regulation stuff. Just my opinion. I don't have a dog in the fight but the issue interested me.

I tend to agree with Nolaball. If one of the teams would have scored in the first 30 seconds, would the game have counted ? It was actually kind of amusing as both teams were focused purely on scoring that GOAL. Defense was very secondary as both teams were looking to go home.
In the end, it really doesn't matter if it counts or not. Very nice tournament. Good weather, good facility, great competition.
To tournament directors....Get Goat a free admission pass to your tournament. Great ambassador for High School Soccer. The man shouldn't have to pay to get in !! LOL

First of all I would like to thank Beau Chene and Westminster for a great tournament. Everything was well run, concessions were excellent and the quality of teams were great.
As to the final game:
Menard played with the same 11 players almost all day Saturday due to players injured, missing and not a deep bench. Before the game started with Teurlings I spoke with their coach and we both agreed that we would play golden goal. If Menard and Teurlings had not already played before Thanksgiving we would have post-poned the final until then, but the situation did not allow that.
Teurlings possessed the ball in the first half probably 90% of the time and probably had 25 chances on goal, but the Menard defense and back-up keeper would not give up easily. Menard had a great shot on goal in the first half that the Teurlings keeper had a beautiful save on which was pretty much our only chance on goal. At half time I figured that my guys could not last long physically after 3-1/2 games that day. We went out in the second half and got a breakaway about 3 minutes in that we were able to finish. If we had not agreed to golden goal there is no doubt in my mind that Teurlings would have been able to wear us down and even the game or even put two in the net.
Thanks again for the great tournament

Coach...all the credit goes to you & your team. Menard played great all weekend. Even after you played an extra 20 minutes in the semifinal game against Loyola, your boys never backed down from the Rebels. Your team deserved the title. Congrats again on a great weekend. Good luck with the rest of your season.
