I know people are curious about why Ross doesn't have hair so I will tell you that Ross has an auto-immune disease that caused him to lose his hair when he was 3 years old. This used to bother Ross as it would any child and teenager. One day I was picking Ross up from soccer practice and the boys were in a huddle, Ross was in the middle, they had their hands on his head and started their Go Rebels! Win Rebels! Hey! and the practice was over. I had to laugh at that and on the way home I asked Ross about it- he said that they were touching his bald head for good luck! His loss of hair does not bother him anymore- he says it's lucky... Ross' Mom Awesome! Sounds like a great kid to be around.

That's really awesome. I'm glad Ross got to experience that. His excitement after his goal explains everything about his character.

Many families know the unbelievable shock and amazement that their child has just scored their first goal in a situation were you never thought it would happen or a player making an epic defensive play or for a goalie, the outstretched tap that saved a game. For families and friends of challenged kids that overcame just to get on the field of play it must be mind boggling to see that child succeed in such a way that the players from both teams aknowledge their accomplishments on the field. Ross, what a goal, you are the man. Congratulations to everybody involved.

This is what the beautiful game of soccer is all about. This act of kindness was truely shows the love for the game those Lafayette players have. What a great story and an awesome experience for Ross.

I am hanging up my screen name, but I had to add my two cents here. This is great. My oldest sister had downs. I always thought she was very special and I always felt a sense of responsibility for her. But after I had the priviledge of becoming a parent myself, I gained even more respect for my parents as well the parents of other special needs children. All parents want their kids to succeed, but parents of special needs kids have to adapt to a different type of success that most of us could probably never imagine. For Ross to have been able to enjoy this type of success and for so many to have benefitted from sharing the experience is truly wonderful. He is obviously a special person and my hat is off to him and his mom for sharing more detail about Ross with the soccer community. For the coaches and players involved, you have done yourself proud. My primary concern for every one of my kid's coaches was that they have a positive impact on the children they coach, Pineville/LHS coaches I think you have set the bar high in this case. I am impressed.

That's awesome! I work at a children's sports camp during the summer, and I always get the pleasure of encountering a few special needs children.
I've heard Ross is an exceptional young man. From this video, I can see how much this meant to him. I can't imagine how he felt after scoring his first high school goal in his last game, aganist a team of Lafayette's calibur. This will be one of the greatest moments of his teenage years, and he will always remember this.
Hats off to Coach Jeremy Cart at LHS. What a class act!

Had tears in my eyes watching that goal. Nice shot Ross! 20 years from now most of those kids will be parents themselves. As they are kicking the ball around with their own kids they may not remember much about the soccer games they played in high school. I'll bet however, most will remember that goal by Ross. What a great act of kindness by everyone involved!!

That's fantastic. I love it at the end where all the players from both teams congratulate him and then he joyously puts his hands to his face. Those are great coaches and kids who truly understand the meaning of "Jogo Bonito", the beautiful game.

This video was awesome. I started a Challenger League within Shreveport Little League several years ago for handicap kids. Most, all under 12 years old. It was inspiring to watch them participate. But, at the high school level, in the playoffs, what Lafayette did, was a true testament to sportsmanship. My hat's off to all of the players and coaches. Well done! Congrats to Ross and his family. Wish I could have seen it in person.
