well tellme has been told. Congrats to Laffy for the win and Jesuit for a good season. I don't think any excuses can be made about the halftime drama(although the only Jesuit folk I have talked to went into much detail about the fiasco). Laffy surely becomes the clear favorite in Division I.

From what I am hearing about the fiasco from this board, it should have hurt Lafayette and not helped them.

I got this from The Advertiser website:
An assistant Lafayette High coach was ejected and the police were called during today’s prep soccer playoff game between Lafayette High and Jesuit.
After a lengthy delay, Lafayette won the game 2-1.
In the first half, Jesuit’s Stephen Duncan scored on a breakaway goal that the Lafayette players and coaches felt was an offsides penalty not called. At least one Lafayette coach, assistant Adam Rayborn, had words with center mid official Brian Hall, an official based out of the Baton Rouge Association.
After a short but heated argument, Hall had Rayborn ejected from the contest. Shortly after, Hall allegedly asked that Rayborn be placed under arrest for verbally assaulting and issuing personal threats during the argument.
The remainder of the first half was played without incident, but halftime is when things got really interesting.
Lafayette senior Eric Ellis turned around and asked that charges be pressed on Hall for similar threats.
Hall was detained and questioned at the stadium by Lafayette Police during a halftime delay which lasted 40 minutes.
Hall informed Ellis and other witnesses that if he proceeded with the charges, the game would be called and Jesuit would be awarded the victory.
Hall refused comment following the game.
“He told me that if I pressed charges against him, he would call the game and Jesuit would be the winner,” Ellis said. “I couldn’t let that happen, I knew we could come back and win the game.”
Lafayette Police Department Sgt. Cornelle Montgomery said his department responded to a call from the security officer on duty at the game. . “The kid that was in the argument with the referee didn’t want to file charges, so they filed a report and left it at that,” he said.

police refused to arrest the coach unless the referee crew could cite the statute that said it is a felony to assault an official. they will turn in a report to LHSAA and pursue via that path. You can be assurred that if LHSAA wants it pursued, the schools will cooperate or be banned from future LHSAA sanctioned events.

I don't think LHSAA will follow up with it, because the Lafayette player could have pressed charges against the official as well (from what I have been reading and understanding). So I think both sides will let it drop, however I could be wrong.

The fact that no cards were shown speaks well for both teams. Each showed a lot of class in spite of the BS at halftime. What kind of official presses criminal charges against a participant? That is absolutely absurd and should disqualify Hall from EVER officiating a match in Louisiana. Congrats to both teams! Your missing the picture here the AR filed charges not the referee. The AR is 19 years old.

The game was absolutely ridiculous....Jesuit scored a great goal about 15 minutes left in the half and LHS went crazy as if they had never been scored upon....then the fiasco occurred during halftime....then LHS gets a PK call ...then scored a great goal on the header....anyway....good luck to LHS

I'll offer a couple of takes on this fiasco:
1)The LHSAA WILL be involved in this further. Having police called in to restore order because of the actions of a coach is completely unacceptable. I dont know that it will result in sanctions, but I wouldnt be surprised to see Adam Raborn dismissed. I know Adam, and like him, but this kind of behavior isnt acceptable in any case at any school. Now, I do think Adam should get due process, and if the "assault" cant be substantiated, then he shouldn't be penalized. That being said, I'm glad I didnt go to the match--I had second thoughts today and felt like going to Laffy with my 10 year old and my 4 year old and see these two great teams play. Now, I'm glad i didnt beause I wouldnt want my children to have to witness this insanity, and then try to explain what was happening to them.
2) The referee was well within his rights to stop the match if he felt that he was in imminent danger, and award the match to the team that was in the lead at half. if the quotes on what was said are even remotely accurate, then the referee was in imminent danger and being assaulted (and yes verbal assault is a form of assault on referees) Its almost the same as a weather related stoppage of play. I dont see where Lafayette would have gained anything by having the guy arrested, it just sounds like a lot of emotion running over.
3) No surprise that something stupid like this happened after all the hype and positive/negative buildup to this game. Say what you want, but people read this forum all the time, got overhyped about this match, and when the inevitable controversial incident happened, a major melt down occurred. ITS JUST A GAME FOLKS-I mean cmon, a threat to kill someone by a coach and the law being called in to mediate the results of a "bad " call. Get over it. its a soccer game, not a domestic incident.
4) Given the circumstances listed in three its hard not understand why officials are getting skittish at these matches, but its time for the refs to focus on what is happening ON THE FIELD, stop taking things so personally, and just ref the game. Its also time for our local officials associations to implement some sort of evaluation system that includes a reward/penalty system. Barret Murphy, who was the AD at EA when I coached there in the mid 90's said simply "You cant be a referee with rabbit ears." Hes right. The magnitude of these games is increasing each year, and I saw more big crowds for HS soccer matches this season than ever before. The pressure on players coaches AND referees is increasing. we are expecting the kids and coaches to get better at handling it, but we dont do the same of the officials. They need to address this issue. I'm a pro-referee coach for sure, but we expect their very best in the biggest matches, and they have to deliver.
