Acadiana wins in shootout. Maybe barbedad or greenfury can give a recap. Congrats to the Lady Rams.

Wow. Tough loss for Northshore. I was pulling for them because of their Lakeview players.

Ok! So Woodlawn lost to Fontainebleau, but I have a few things to say about the game:
First, Fontainebleau's players are some of the classiest girls my team has played. They did not play dirty, there was no smack talk, and they were respectful and complimentary of the way Woodlawn played.
Secondly, their parents were doubly complimentary of my girls play and it always nice to hear nice things about your team from other people.
Third, the referee crew was awesome!! If you can ever get John Connelly (spelling?) as your center ref, you will be in good hands.
AND lastly, I have to give huge props to my Woodlawn girls for their play this evening. We had our last practice on January 26 and our last game on January 27. After our lost to Baton Rouge High, we assumed the season was over. After finding out we made the play-offs, the girls regrouped for three really good days of practice leading up to this game. When we were seeded against Fontainebleau they didn't throw up their hands and say "oh well!" they decided that they were going to face this challenge. Over the course of the week we lost both of our forwards (one to a death in the family and one to mono), but the girls didn't let it bother them. So to my point.......
As a coach there are times when your team loses but you just can't help but be PROUD and PLEASED with their effort. I am bursting at the seams with pride. My goalkeeper Sarah Guillory took a barrage of shots and had numerous saves!! My defensive squad (Adrienne Frith, Emmy Senft, Line Sivertsen, and Katrina Gregor) never quit. They challenged every through ball and chased down every breakaway. And all of the other girls did everything I asked of them. They are just an awesome bunch of kids.
We walked off the field feeling good about our effort and my girls had fun (they said that the Fontainebleau players helped to make this a good competitive and FUN game because of their attitudes)!
So kudos to Fontainebleau! Good luck in the playoffs!

Acadiana wins in shootout. Maybe barbedad or greenfury can give a recap. Congrats to the Lady Rams. SHSDad - question for you - did you play two overtimes then go to sudden death or after the first two overtimes go straight to PKs? Just seeing how the rules are with this year's playoffs.

Game was played with the same playoff overtime rules as previous years. Two FULL 10-minute overtime periods regardless of the score at the end of one 10-minute period. If still tied, two five-minute sudden death/golden goal periods. If still tied, PKs.

Comeaux 0 East Ascension 0
Comeaux wins 3 to 5 on penalty kicks. Great game defensively on both teams. Both school had chances to put this game away but could not find the back of the net. But I do want to "call out" a group of fans.
There was a group of fans that if I were to guess, I would say they were ALL EA students. I personally want to say "THANK YOU!" After the girls played their hearts out, this group of 30 to 40 supports formed an alley for the girls to walk through and the applauded the Comeaux girls as they walked off the pitch. They all wished the girls the best of luck in the playoffs. I have only been around high school soccer for 2 years but I been around sports all my life and I can say I never seen anything like that. They really showed good, no great, sportsmanship and class. To the parents of those kids, job well done. If every school displayed the class and sportsmanship that this group did, the world would be a BETTER place.
So again, THANK YOU! GO SPARTANS! Both East Ascension and Comeaux!

Yes it was very tough loss for our Northshore Lady Panthers but they played an extremely great game and they played there hearts out. In my opinion, Northshore pretty much dominated most of the game. Acadiana's goal came of a freekick but Northshore came back and tied of a corner. Northshore definitely had more shots on goal but we just could not put it in the back of net. The officiating was horrible. Probably one of the worst I have seen in a while. In the second 10 minute overtime Northshore could have score from a PK but again just were not able to convert. In the end, we lost but I am very proud of our girls. Not impressed with how the Acadiana girls played. They have bad attitudes and have a very dramatic style of play which makes the loss that much harder. I hope Fontainebleau kicks their butts (which they will) and maybe they can learn from them how to play soccer they way soccer should be played.

EA vs Comeaux... that was one of the hardest fought matches I've seen in quite some time. Both teams had multiple chances and failed to score. I'll say that the game was probably about 55-45 or maybe 60-40 EA, but what matters in the end is the score. From watching those PKs, it's obvious that Comeaux works hard at them and that's what you have to do to win sometimes.
As for the sportsmanship of EA's fans, I agree. Most of the fans in attendance were EA's boy's soccer team along with some students. They are always very supportive of their girls without being rude or obnoxious. The stands were by no means packed, but I guarentee everyone there heard those students last night!

soccermom20, I would like to agree with you on the referees, not by any shot the best. Baton Rouge refs, so who knows!?! Both teams got the raw end of calls all night. After that, we have a few differences. Your words are uncalled for. BOTH teams played hard and were well matched and it was by any standard a good game between two teams who desperately wanted to win. Unfortunately Northshore had some good chances and could not put them away. I like to see a game where the referees do not make a difference in the game, and that is almost what we got. Posession was as you stated about 65-35 in favor of Northshore. Acadiana's possession is usually less than a possesion style team like Northshore tries to play. Acadiana plays a direct style of soccer. Perhaps you should spend a little more time watching a variety of other teams play at different levels to learn that there are a multitude of styles to play, might help!
FYI, Acadiana played last night without a forward who fractured her foot aginst STM, a Senior outside mid who has had severe turf toe all year, on her dominate foot. another forward who has to have surgery in a few days(severe discomfort) and one center mid with a strained MCL who has been advised not to play! I am sure that you would not question their lack of heart if they played for Northshore, so why take away from Acadiana what was a good win and one where they were not near 100%, if they were, it would have been a different game I assure you. However, I would like to inform you that Northshore is a disciplined, well coached, hard playing group of girls. Please congratulate them and wish them good luck next year!

EA V Comeaux - yup, if you wanted to find fault in seeding system, you'd be hard pushed to get an argument here. Was classic 16 v 17. 0-0 all the way thru PKs. Everyone left it all on the pitch. Huge congrats to Comeaux, especially Shawn #10 and best of luck for next game.
EA Seniors - thanks for ALL that you have done over these last four years. So proud and so excited to see next chapter in your lives.
EA Boys support- magnificent!!
best of luck to all still chugging along. Stay injury free.
soccermom20 - post above. You are the reason sports get a bad name.

I am very familiar with the different styles of soccer played around the world. At least we don't play "hurt the soccer player next to you" soccer. It doesn't matter anyway, what's done is done. The PK we got was well deserved after 90 minutes of taking the abuse from Acadiana. We were deprived one previously during regular time because of the horrible refs. That we couldn't put it in the back of net, well that is just the way it goes in the game of soccer. It happens. Northshore should have won last night. They deserved it. Call me a sore loser. Maybe I am but I don't care. And to answer your question, aliceshoe1 as to where was Northshore all those years, we were busy playing the likes of Fontainebleau, Mandeville in a very tough district trying to survive.

There's no "deserving to win" in soccer. You either win or you lose. In soccer you can dominate for 89 minutes but if you don't convert and they do on one chance, the other team wins. And they "deserve to" because they scored. And yes it's difficult to overcome games like that, they stick with you and you feel angry about them. But as a parent it's our job to teach our children how to overcome and approach losses like that in a way that's not demeaning and disrespectful. Good luck in the future and congratulations on making the playoffs in a very tough district. And congratulations to Acadiana on a tough win.

Northshore vs Acadiana or should we call it the game Northshore let get away. First to game description: Northshore has a shot on goal in 1st 30 seconds of the game and had what I call 4 "oh sh@t" moments in the 1st half but cannot finish. Acadiana had ZERO shots on goal first half. Second half Acadiana steps up their play and gets a beautiful free kick from 25 yards out by Jade Theriot. Northshore ties the game with about 20 minutes left and both teams had excellent chances before end of regulation. Games gets a little physical last 20 minutes of the game with Acadiana girl gets a soft red. Both overtime periods each team has opportunities to win and Northshore shoots themselves in the foot by missing a PK in second overtime. (And yes the pk was deserved). Both golden goal overtime periods teams are wiped out and look like they are playing for shootout. Acadiana keeper makes a huge stop on one of Northshore's best players (#4) and go on to win 4-2 in PKs. And now for the rest of the story: The officiating was horrible. Probably one of the worst I have seen in a while. Not impressed with how the Acadiana girls played. They have bad attitudes and have a very dramatic style of play which makes the loss that much harder. I hope Fontainebleau kicks their butts (which they will) and maybe they can learn from them how to play soccer they way soccer should be played. I did not find the officiating to be "horrible". The game was physical but welcome to District 3 soccer! I did not see the bad attitudes, I saw 2 teams leave their hearts and soles on the field. Acadiana limped into the game and could have easily just gone thru the motions but they kept Northshore at bay ( of course most was because of NS's ineptness). And to say you hope F'bleau "kicks their butts" and they might but I promise you Acadiana will not roll over and play dead. They are a wounded animal and will bite if you get too close. So congrats to Northshore for what I thought was an impressive performance (even if the comments by soccermom was not). You out shot the rams, out controlled the ball over the rams, and controlled the game 65/35 but as a wiseman says on this board, it is all about the scoreboard. I enjoyed meeting the Northshore parents and you should be proud of the game your girls played tonight.

OK, enough about round 1, on to the Regionals. My prediction is that the higher seed wins every game in this round with the exception of Dutchtown. I giving the nod to Dominican in that one.

Well, I have a few things to say, as usual. First I must say that West Monroe showed me something by beating a pretty good Chapelle team. I will give you credit for being better than most of us "so called experts" on here thought. I am thinking that Barbedad was the only one smart enough to pick you guys. That is the first time he has ever been the only one right around here. LOL. It gets much harder in the next round with only the top 16 teams left and having to go to BRHS to get it done. If you are lucky enough to beat them then maybe next year you can get in the rankings. The next thing is to Soccermom: I won't be like everyone else and pile on you for saying what you feel. Just understand that there are teams that play what I like to call skill soccer and other teams that play what I call physical soccer(kinda like offensive and defensive minded football teams). The physical teams will have the advantage if the referees are not calling by the letter of the rules because they are used to playing aggressive as opposed to your team that may not know how and is more obvious doing it because of that fact. They also might seem to be more adept at what some call "flopping" to get calls, hence your thoughts of "dramatic style of play". Although this may be on the line of bad sportmanship, it is up to the referees to make the right calls. Unfortunately, the referee talent pool in Louisiana may also be smaller so more of them may get intimidated by the home crowd. I think as the level of soccer and interest in soccer rises in Louisiana, the officiating will rise also but it just takes time. I do understand your heartbreak in losing to what you feel is a classless team. Most of us would rather lose to a Caddo Magnet or East Ascension. Try not to sink to the level that you believe them to be at and instead use this as a lesson to your girls. Anyone can win or lose a soccer match and contrary to popular opinion, the best team doesn't always win. It is only a game though and in the end they can be the real winner by being the better person. Hopefully you can also understand (as I have also been reminded by several people smarter and more versed than I) that some of the players read this site and could be offended or hurt by your words.
