What this truly means is that you cannot flick the ball up yourself to the head or chest or knee to then send it to the keeper in order to get around the passback restriction. But if that ball comes from somewhere else, it is legal. As described it is a form of trickery and I’ve seen it maybe half a dozen times. maybe that "trickery" occured when the pass-back rule was first implemented, but I don't think that I have ever seen this so-called "trickery" over the last 10 years Sunday league can be one hell of a grab bag at times

uses a deliberate trick to pass the ball (including from a free kick) to the goalkeeper with the head, chest, knee etc. to circumvent the Law, whether or not the goalkeeper touches the ball with the hands This one has me all confused sounds like a rule created by someone that does not play soccer. it is perfectly legal to pass the ball to the goalie, with all parts of the body, except he can't pick it up when it is a pass from his teammate's foot BTW, IFAB stands for International Football Association Board. ie the WORLDS governing body. They may have "played soccer before". Just sayin.

I've had it happen 2x. Once by a young Mullins kid trying to be creative.

I would venture to say that vast majority have never even seen the rule book in person. I think they just learn the rules from coaches or "word of mouth"

I would venture to say that vast majority have never even seen the rule book in person. I think they just learn the rules from coaches or "word of mouth" Truer words have never been spoken yet people argue they are correct all the time and some even come on this board and swear their team was hosed by a referee. Who by the way, most of the capable ones have read the books several times. Also we are getting to the point where those books are harder and harder to come by. I fortunately get one each year, but most are simply referred to this link. www.theifab.com/document/laws-of-the-gameAlso there is an app in the app store if you search "ifab laws of the game" Happy reading!

I think they just learn the rules from coaches or "word of mouth" More than likely they learned it from the the loud guy yelling from the upper bleachers about “offsides” and that “you can’t spin a throw in” and also that “you can’t play on the ground” and other well known things everyone knows...

Forgot my favorite CALL IT BOTH WAYS I'm guessing you've heard that already in your brief time at the current game.

Forgot my favorite CALL IT BOTH WAYS If it truly matters, you yell this when the foul went your way. Great way to get the center to pause and reflect.
