Have to agree with ShreveDad. New Iberia's keeper should have been the MVP despite the result. She was under fire the entire 107.5 minutes.

It is not often that I get on the girls side and post, but after watching the D3 finals today I felt the need to post something. I went to the game because I love to watch soccer and to pull for the girls from New Iberia. I wasn’t expecting to see what I did.
The game was dominated by Sacred Heart, but the team that played with HEART was Cath. N. I. I watched a goalie keep her team in the game. I saw a team that never gave up. I saw a team play as hard as any soccer team I have ever watched play. It was truly a pleasure watching these girls. So to the girls from Catholic N. I., I say THANK YOU, for reminding me why I love high school sports so much, THANK YOU for making me realize why I love an underdog. THANK YOU for playing your hearts out even when no one gave yall a chance! If I had a vote the goalie from Cath. N. I. would have been the MVP!!
Hold your heads high because in my opinion there was NO LOSER tonight, just winners!!!!!

I agree that Catholic NI played with heart & never gave up. The goalie was spectacular. Hats off to her & teammates who did not give up. Sacred Heart played with HEART as well. I was struck w/ the composure & tenacity of the girls who were being stopped time and again by the goalie. They never seemed frazzled by this goalie who would not give up. Instead of being frustrated and breaking down, they dug deep, supported each other & kept plugging away with confidence that if they kept making opportunities, eventually it would pay off. Quite a game to watch!

Article from the Shreveport Times: www.shreveporttimes.com/article/20100227/SPORTS0104/2270328/1031/SPORTS0301No. 1 Sacred Heart takes Division III titleBy Kelly Morris • kmorris4@gannett.com • February 27, 2010 The Sacred Heart girls soccer team snapped four years of frustration Friday. The No. 1 seed Cardinals captured their first Division III state title since 2005 with a 1-0 win in the fourth overtime against No. 3 seed Catholic New Iberia at Independence Stadium. Junior forward Katherine Moody headed in the game-winner off a cross with 2:30 left in the fourth overtime. Sacred Heart lost the last four state championship games. "We really wanted it this year," said Moody, whose Cardinals lost to St. Louis 4-0 in last year's finals. "I took an awesome cross from Kristen Kern. I just jumped up over the defenders and headed into the corner. None of our shots had been working all day because they were packing in the box. It had gotten really cramped." The two teams battled rain and cold conditions. They played two 10-minute overtimes before the five-minute sudden death overtimes. The Cardinals outscored their opponents 25-0 in the playoffs. "The ball was slippery, but we couldn't feel the cold," Moody said. Freshman forward Sarah Martin was named the Most Valuable Player, but Catholic's Lauren Jolivette was the real standout. The goaltender finished the night with 25 saves. "She's an amazing goalie," Martin said. "Every time I tried to hit the corner, she would just get it. I got so frustrated, but finally, he did it. We got one through." Martin fed the ball to Dean on the game-winner. The first 20 minutes of the second half stayed on Catholic's side of the field. Sacred Heart (24-3-2) missed many prime opportunities to score in regulation. Kern hit the crossbar to open the second half. Martin also got a piece of the pipe, hitting the left post on a breakaway. Much of Sacred Heart's pressure was in tight, so in tight that Sacred Heart ran out of room to get off a quality shot. When it did get a shot off, it usually was shot right to Jolivette. "(Jolivette) was incredible," Sacred Heart coach Tooraj Badie said. "I was just telling the girls to be patient. Keep serving the ball back in. They're bound to make some mistake if you keep applying pressure." Catholic (18-6-4) did manage to get out of its zone long enough to fire a strong shot in the second half. Angelle Patout hit the post on a 2-on-0 chance. The first half was pretty much the same. Jolivette single-handedly kept the game scoreless. The start of the game stayed in the midfield, but Sacred Heart slowly moved more downfield. Sacred Heart pressured consistently with Moody, Kern and Martin.

Indeed both teams played with heart. I think SH dominated the game. You can tell that they were a well disciplined, finely skilled, and excellently coached team. CH definitely played their hearts out, but seemed to turn to a defensive posture after the first half. The CH keeper was nothing other than Incredible. As always, I'm clueless how the CH keeper wasnt awarded the MVP. Throughout the game, fans (on both sides) were saying she was awesome. I had to agree with them. I've seen nothing like it in six years of following this sport. Exactly who votes on the MVP? Can anyone share the knowledge?

MVP voters are 1 local media person, 1 college girls coach, 1 college boys coach and a premier coach. No question the CNI keeper was the MVP, but it's very rare a player from the winning team doesn't get the award. Not saying that's right, just the way it turns out most of the time.

Let me just say I'm a big fan of keepers and when a keeper plays a great game like that and losses on a header is just sad. She played outstanding and despite the results should have got the MVP but was denied. I think New Iberia teams don't get the respect that they deserve. I think if the roles were reversed that the other keeper would have got it. It all depends on whose doing the voting just like how Apollo got screwed over by a Canadian judge in the olympics lol.

I think if the roles were reversed that the other keeper would have got it. I agree with you on your 1st point but the second is completely false. The 3 coaches who voted could care less which school wins or loses. They all thought the girl who won was the best player on the field during that match. I disagreed and tried to convince them of that, but like I said last night I don't have a vote. You can be very, very proud of the way your girls played yesterday.

I am the statistician for the CHSNI soccer team and a proud dad of two of the players. On behalf of our team and our Coach, Congratualtions! to Sacred Heart. We thank all of you for the compliments. We also thank all of you for keeping this website going and enabling soccer to have a sounding board. Our team was indeed built from the defense forward. Our goal was to score a counter attact goal or achieve a shoot out and we nearly accomplished that. After playing several top tier Division I teams to draws and only loosing to a couple of elite teams like MC by single goals, our girls were accustomed to being underdogs. The good news is that we only had 3 seniors that played Friday, although they were something special. Attached is the article from our local newspaper. Enjoy and may God bless all! www.iberianet.com/articles/2010/02/28/sports/doc4b89fa0e45205015390203.txt
