Congrats to Coach Mike and the Doves. I never would have picked this one at the beginning of the playoffs. SSA fans may have been the only ones in the state to believe they would repeat.

This was a match to remember. Four overtimes and yet the game had to be decided by PKs. MCA's high powered offense and SSA's stingy defense made this game very exciting to watch. It was unfortunate this game had to be decided by PKs. Both teams played so hard. Hats off to the SSA Doves for hanging in there and winning Back to Back State Championships! As for the MCA Cubs, they are a great team with a ton of talent. I'm sure we'll hear plenty more about them in the years to come.

Congrats to SSA and MCA for an outstanding game, maybe the best state championship ever. I thought MCA controlled the ball more than SSA, but good teams and good defense wins championships. SSA proved me right.......three transfers DO make a difference. Good luck to both teams next year. Maybe I will see some of you on the road in the spring.

not sure who you are talking about footaction.... SSA had one transfer, Emily Descant, who became eligible in January. Every other player was on the roster in the fall. Just another reason why you shouldn't post something on this site if you don't know the facts.

Emily Descant of St. Scholastica was the MVP, she got the goal and a pk. Maybe I got the number wrong, but a transfer DID make a difference...."caseinpoint"!

I understand that Ms Descant transferred from Mandeville. Also, Danielle Beaty returned to SSA in early January, obviously these two made a difference to the team when it really counted.

aliceshoe1, your are so right. For those of you that are interested in the facts, Descant was initially enrolled at SSA before transferring to Mandeville. She returned to SSA to improve her educational environment. She also plays club ball with many of the SSA players. Most believed that this would be a rebuilding year for the Doves after losing some outstanding players like Tricia Johnson, MVP of the State last year, Kelly Gautreaux, MVP of last year's State Championship match, and Lindsey Schwaner, SSA's outstanding goalie last year who should have been First Team All State. All three are now playing college ball, Johnson and Gautreaux at LSU, and Schwaner at USM. Even though SSA had a lot of talent returning this year, they were not expected to bring home the Championship trophy again. This team has a bunch of gutsy performers who refuse to lose. This, coupled with Coach Mike Ortner's coaching skills, and his ability to get the most out of his players, is the real reason the Doves of SSA are still State Champions of Division I Soccer. Oh, and by the way, the Doves return seven starters next year!

greenfury05, sorry to say you are so wrong. Danielle Beatty has attended SSA all four years. She was part of SSA's last year 2008-2009 Division I State Championship team, the 2007-2008 Division I Semi-Final SSA team, and the 2006-2007 Division II State Championship team. Beatty sustained an injury in last year's Championship match that initially was not thought to be serious, however, she required surgery and could not play until January. Her return with Descant, although significant, was coincidental.
