I am sure you have been trying to get Newman, BF, and St. Thomas Aquinas. I definitely would LOVE that... we need more DIII New Orleans schools... De La Salle is another one. Parkview and Runnels are 2 good Baton Rouge DIII schools that garner interest as well.

This is going to end up being one of the best tournaments in the state once again. Thanks for going through everything to put on such a great tournament.

If this tourney extended to Sunday then I'm sure Newman or BF would join.

If this tourney extended to Sunday then I'm sure Newman or BF would join. Why? 4-5 games in one day isn't too appealling. I heard that's why they didn't join last year.

Thats true mr logic....and..isnt to fair could that local teams get to play thursday, friday, and Saturday...one game a day...that is not an even playing field..then NOLA teams have to cram it in.....plus teams with 40 kids like STL have no prob playing tons of games in a row...smaller D3 schools struggle with numbers...in a tournament with 4/5 games in 2 days..If everyone could play Firday night(one game), and then two Saturday...then Semis and finals on Sunday..that might work....MIGHT!!

Many teams cannot afford to stay in hotels for 2 nights out of town, so it is almost impossible to play on Sunday for out of town teams.
This happened this year at Copa with Parkway. We played 2 bracket games on Saturday morning, and a tough semi-final game against St. Fred's that went to PKs. We were set up to play Holy Cross in the finals, and even though we had played 3 games and getting ready to play our 4th, our boys were itching to get back on the field. Holy Cross ended up forfeiting because of injuries and lack of players.
In order for teams to become successful, they must stand up to adversity. Sometimes, that encompasses playing 3-4 games in one day. Yeah, it sucks, but if it meant that I could play for a championship, then I'd no doubt do it, and I would play until I had to be physically carried off of the field.
If you want to get some respect, you're going to learn how to deal with these kind of situations. Live up to the adversity.

Just for the record, that Championship game would have been Holy Cross's 5th game that day. With two district games coming up that week, their coach felt it was in the best interest of the team to not risk further injury to his players to play that 5th game.

Some facts...
Last years injuries/fatigue were probably more a case of playing on sloppy fields than playing 4 or 5 games.
It snowed... forcing all but 2 of the Friday games to be postponed to the Saturday.
Normally, without weather delays... local teams up to an hour away are offered a chance to play 1 game on Thursday. All other teams are offered a chance to play 2 on Friday to catch up. Saturday would be on 1 group game, then the semifinals and Finals.
Most importantly... games are ONLY 25 minute halves... meaning a whole tournament game is a little more than half of a real game. So if you play 2 games in 2 days, which some teams do in high school when the travel across the state... you will play more than you do in this tournament unless you make the finals.
Just wanted to clear all of that up...
Would Friday to Sunday be better? Yes in a way it would. But going that way, I would lose teams who can not afford to stay 2 nights. So I would think leaving the tournament alone and praying for good weather is the best scenario. I do have the Sunday blocked off at Moore Park in case of emergency or change of decision.

Depends on the school... last year, only 1 team could not play on Sunday and they didn't make it to the quarters so we didn't have to cross that bridge.

no1saintsfan, not trying to bash on Holy Cross. It would have been Parkway's 4th game of the day. After 3, what's the difference? You're dead tired anyway.

Goat....we bark....but if we are injured for the remained of the season becasue of the 4th game in the day...how loud will our bark be?? AND...for all those polsters who read only results and vote accordingly, even if it is the 4th game??!?!? These days, you need to really look at your scheduling . Upper90.....name me one sport that packs 3 or 4 games a day?? you must not be a coach. Having kids recover from a match is as important as playing in one. In the world of "High School Soccer", which is very rough and many kids take knocks and/or injuries more often, this rest is important. And when you come across a team like St Louis who has 40 kids and just continue to beat you down by player after player..it just doesnt make too much sense to fit 3 more games in that day. Ill play anyone on a one day game situation and have a chance to win. Smaller schools struggle in a 2 day tourney. Thats just the truth. So, its not about "stepping up" or "running with the big dogs"..its protecting your players. The season isnt a sprint...is a marathon..and thats how you must look at things.

Coach, would you consider allowing Thursday games to be played "off site"? That way teams in the GNO area, and possibly other areas, could play first round games in NO on Thursday and not have to catch up. Heck you could even run games at satelight sites like GNO and Baton Rouge on Thursday. Team might be able to travel to/from those locations and play Thursday game, too. What do you think? NewO
