Has there been any effort by LHSAA to make protective head gear mandatory for high school soccer. Every year there seems to be a case of mild concussions. If education is really important don't you think we should be protecting one of the most valuable parts the child's body - the brain

concussions are not frequent at all in soccer... this would be an awful rule

I believe headgear would lead to more serious injuries, and more concussions... Since players would feel more protected, they would take more risk, leading to neck injuries and other serious injuries

People get concussions when tripping and falling while walking from their car to work but that doesn't mean everyone should wear a helmet at all times. Football players wear helmets and still get concussions, so how would this solve the problem? IMO this would ruin the sport and further damage soccer's "girly" reputation among Americans.

Oh give me a break! Let's ruin the game by requiring protective head gear, which then encourages players to be even more aggressive with their head. American "football" anybody??? A concussion is caused by the brain hitting the INSIDE of the skull. What good does a little bit of padding on the outside of the skull do? Plus, let's face it, it's just stupid looking...

The threat of concussions is getting more attention, LHSAA, USSF, and LSA areall putting more focus on recognition of concussions, not allowing players back in to games until medical diagnose took place, and requiring training for coaches and officials on symptoms. I don't know if wearing headgear would make someone more aggressive, the kids I've seen wearing it don't appear to be any more aggressive than those without. I think it is more for protection and to lessen the blow on impact. Haven't seen information that said one way or another if this offers help or not.
