The 2012 Division III State Championship will be held at Tad Gormley Stadium in City Park in New Orleans. The game will be on Saturday, February 25 at 1:30 PM.
The #1 Seed, Metairie Park Country Day, has an overall record of 18-5-2 with a division record of 12-0-1. The Cajuns have played a tough schedule and are undefeated in their division with only a tie to St. Martins. In the Bi-District round the Cajuns defeated Grace Christian 10-0 and then defeated Lusher, a district opponent, 3-0 in the Regional round. In the Quarterfinals Country Day defeated Newman, their district rival, by a score of 1-0. In the Semi-finals the Cajuns took St. Thomas Aquinas to a PK shootout with a score of 1-1. In PKS, Country day was victorious 4-2 with their keeper making a save to give them the win and advancing them to the finals. This season the Cajuns have only given up 16 goals in 25 games and have scored 71 goals. The Cajuns made it to the Quarterfinals last year.
The #2 Seed, Northlake Christian School, has an overall record of 20-4-3 and a division record of 9-1-1. The Wolverines have also played a tough schedule and only have one division loss to their district rivals St. Thomas Aquinas and one tie to University High. In the Bi-District round the Wolverines defeated Fisher 9-0 and in the Regional round they defeated Runnels 3-0. In the Quarterfinal round Northlake traveled to St. Martins and were able to win in overtime by a score of 2-1. In the Semi-Fianls the Wolverines defeated University High 1-0 to advance to the finals. This season the Wolverines have only given up 19 goals in 27 games and have scored 77 goals. The Wolverines are the reigning State Champions in DIII.
The Cajuns and the Wolverines have not played this season. They were scheduled to play earlier this season on January 9th, but the game was canceled because of the BCS National Championship. The last time these teams met was in the 2011 playoffs where Northlake was able to come back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to win 2-1.
There are 5 days until this game,

Country Day 2-1
I think the relentless, physical style of the Country Day team will ultimately make the difference.
Set pieces will play a huge part in this game, but I think CD's defending of set pieces will triumph over NLC knack of executing from their set plays.

Funny story, a D 3 coach predicted this game at the STA @ NCS game. Wow now that is a pretty good prediction.

sound soccer really? how about the last-pick-the-coaches-wanted. because they had to beat a underrated lusher team, underrated newman team, and an underrated STA team. i think country day wins. havent seen NCS play, i am just saying this because i would love to see all 3 trophies come to new orleans. however, CD deserves to be in the game more then any other team.

This game is going to be a good one. Both teams match up pretty well against each other. I feel that NLC will have the edge and below are some of my thoughts: 1. NLC will probably man mark to neutralize CDs main attack and will force other players to step up to that roll.
2. NLC has slight edge on possession and passing.
3. Both keepers are outstanding. If you enjoy great saves, this is a match where you will see them.
4. CD has the edge if the refs allow a more physical game. Will know the answer to this in the starting minutes.
Congrats to both teams, I predict 3 -1 NLC in a hard fought match.

Thanks for the summaries goalieguy. One correction for the Country Day summary. Because St. Martin's is in a different division this year, Country Day was 12-0 in division.

One correction for the Country Day summary. Because St. Martin's is in a different division this year, Country Day was 12-0 in division. St. Martin's is in a different district this year, but they are still in the same division as Country Day. 12-0-1 is correct for their division record.

Well, cdrocks ... guess the guilt over how CD got in has turned from lashing out to “us against the world” rants ... the CD coaches and players did not do anything wrong they merely benefited from a terrible situation. CD fans quickly told the other fans to ”get over it” rather than being gracious in victory. CD got a big break. Accept that and perhaps CD fans should move on and just accept the gift such as it is.

Good smack I suppose, but the CD arrogance will be their downfall. Better win or you will get SMACKED here hard.

Right malinich. Sorry goalieguy. My eyes initially read district when it said division. 12-0-1 division record for Country Day is certainly correct. What is also correct is that Country Day's losses were games against Jesuit, Brother Martin, St. Louis (twice by 0-1) and St. Amant - pretty nice competition since 2 of those 4 teams are in the higher division finals. Only one of those games was not All but one game were closely fought games. As to sportsmanship, the Country Day coaches and school have emphasized the importance of being sportsmen. I attended the semifinals game and experienced the cursing and taunting that was directed at the CD fans and parents after the game. I did not respond in kind nor did I hear anyone else do so.

last entry should say: Only one of those games was not a closely fought game. Somehow hit post before finishing.

I did see the losses in their record as thought about including them but decided to leave it out for time sake. I'll go back and add something about that. Northlake's only losses are to STA, Brother Martin, Lafayette, and St. Paul's and both teams played a hard regular season schedule.

goalieguy - I agree with your last comment that both Country Day and Northlake Christian "played a hard regular season schedule." Thanks for the info on Northlake's losses. Country Day lost 0-3 to Brother Martin, 0-2 to Jesuit, 0-1 to St. Louis twice and 0-1 to St. Amant. I am looking forward to watching a great finals game between Country Day and Northlake Christian.

Pretty sure STA went to the board before any CD people. STA immediately started bashing CD calling them lucky and telling them they didn't deserve to be in the championship. CD never said bad things about Lusher, Newman, etc. Only to STA people who began the ranting. Should be a great one.

Have experienced poor sportsmanship from both CD players and STA fans. Never experienced poor sportsmanship from NCS. No doubt good coaching and personal conviction. Hope to see a good clean game Saturday. NCS 2-1

The bickering between Country Day and St. Thomas Aquinas ends now. The game is over and it is very unfortunate for the Falcons but this thread is about Country Day and Northlake. Please stop with the STA/CD talk, that thread was locked for a reason.

Who seems to be the underdog? I believe CD hasn't been ranked below #2 all year, start all most all seniors and most believe had the hardest bracket to get to final game. NCS starts 3 seniors, 1 junior, 4 soph, 2 freshmen and an 8th grader. I believe that CD has size advantage NCS can control the tempo. The game will come down to which back line makes the first mistake.
