Scott Crawford, somehow the link to the Vandy-SLC game from 2011 disappeared.

Congratulations to St. Paul, Vandebilt and St. Louis! All great teams that had quite a road to the finals. St. Paul had an amazing historic undefeated season and earned the No. 1 spot in the power rankings and were dominant in the playoffs. St. Louis also earned the No. 1 spot in D3 rankings and did not disappoint in the playoffs. St. Louis looks to be back on top after taking a year off from the Championship. Vandebilt struggled early in the season with its young and inexperienced roster. However, playing against good competition helped the team mature and they played the Cinderella role as it was a No. 5 seed (although Ben Franklin was a No. 7, everybody knew they were in the top 2 or 3 best D2 teams). Good luck next year to all three!
Interesting side note: St. Louis and Vandy tied at Copa. Vandy and St. Paul tied at St. Paul tournament (yes, I know St. Paul had some people out who went to Disney for showcase, but so did Vandy).
Interesting side note 2: This is only the third time that Catholic schools won all three divisions: 2002-2003, 2006-2007, 2014-2015. Also, in the 1993-1994 season, Catholic schools swept the championships as there were only 2 divisions at that time.
Finally, it should be an LHSAA requirement to have a cardiologist on staff at the Championship games. These PK games are not good for the heart. My blood pressure is just getting back to normal.

Although it was disappointing to have it end early, knowing that we tied two state champions this year makes this season that much more special. That Copa group really was special after all.
Too lazy to check, but I think this is also the first season in a while where multiple top-seeds won the title. This was the first year with multiple championships decided by PKs.

From my recollection of memories the founder of Easton's Soccer Dynasty would have to go to an old football coach named Sam Mondelo, Mr. Mondelo a disciplinarian at Warren Easton took the reigns of the program when the Hispanic students went to him asking to have a soccer team, students like Helmuth Reese, Norman Serrano, Jose Martinez, Jaime Fletes, Mario Mejia to name a few , Mondelo took the task at hand and with his team oriented skills and the help of the students achieved his first Championship in his 2nd year 78, repeated the following year with an influx of freshmen from Beauregard jr. High like Roger Serrano, Gustabo Rivera, Russel Moreno, Otto Rojas,Oscar Rodriguez, and yours truly Jorge Martinez. These freshmen were also The State Champions at the Club level at that time with another Eagle team Called Motagua Blue eagles. Mr.Mondelo retired after winning consecutive Championships! The following year a teacher of the Schools bilingual program took over the reigns of the team his nam escapes my mind, he was also successful in bringing another Championship he lasted only one year for he went back to Chile his native country. Now this is where Mr. Don Naylor comes in he being a football coach also, Don Naylor wins the 4th Championship in a row for Warren Easton! This Group of players made history in the State of Louisiana for many years that went unnotice not only winning Championships at the High School level but also at the club levels and the men's amateur level! The majority are still affiliated to the Actual Louisiana men's Amateur State Champions, so my Friend if the name MOTAGUA is not synonymous with Louisiana Soccer somebody has been pulling your chain! Sincerely. J. Martinez P.s if you would like more material Feel free to contact me.

After Mondello came our Chilean coach but please don't forget my favorite coach….Zackowski. I will never forget then 38 laps we had to do around our school campus after our only loss in 81. i'm not being sarcastic, Zackowski WAS my favorite of all coaches.

Wow I had no idea Slidell won 5 championships. Recent times show no evidence. I don't recall seeing any stars on their crest either as a player either. I always took pride in the stars above my crest especially when I earned one. History can be so surprising. Such as how the USA made the semi finals in the World Cup way back in the 1930's. Does anyone know more about slidells championships? High Hispanic population with low interest from non-Hispanics at that time vs now? Random raw talent? Very curious

Does anyone know more about slidells championships? High Hispanic population with low interest from non-Hispanics at that time vs now? Random raw talent? Very curious Here is your answer: The Slidell Youth Soccer Association started their select team program in 1980 at the urging of Coach John Wiggins. The SYSC Raiders won the U-14 State Championship in 81, the U-16 Championship in 82, and most of those players and the players from the SYSC U-14 Sabres formed the initial Slidell High Team in 82. So, they had been playing together for two and three years before they got to SHS. Tony Paleramo, Jaime Navarez, Tommy Cason, Jay Fitzmorris, Marty Bech, Malcolm Bech, Jimmy Chauffe, were on these early teams and had been the best players in the youth league for many years. So, most, if not all of the credit goes to John Wiggins, who really pulled together the best players and really taught them how to play great soccer.

Hey Scott, I noticed that you did not have everything correct for 1980-1981 Here's what I remember. In the City/State semi finals Warren Easton (#1 seed) beat Shaw(#4 seed) 5-0 In one of the best high school soccer games that I have seen Bonnabel(#2 seed) beat Catholic league champ Rummel(#3 seed) 1-0 in overtime (on a penalty kick) at a very muddy Pan American Stadium. Easton beat Bonnabel 4-2 at Pan American Easton was forced to forfeit for using ineligible players. Bonnabel then beat Shaw 5-0 for the title played at Rummel days later.

Do you have any supporting evidence, like a newspaper article or trophy in Bonnabel's possession, that supports this? I remember you posting the same thing several years ago, so I tried to find evidence for the Bonnabel Shaw game or Warren Easton being disqualified, and I could find neither in The Times Picayune. The 1980 state semifinal game (not 1981) was between Bonnabel and DeLaSalle. Great contest which Bonnabel won in penalty kicks. I played in the game for DLS. Shaw was eliminated prior to the semis. DeLaSalle won the Catholic league that year.

Shaw was eliminated by Warren Easton in one of the semifinal matches, after beating Newman in the quarters. but it was definitely Bonnabel against DLS in the other semifinal.

I saw the championship trophy at Bonnabel a few years ago, but they packed it up somewhere in a box on campus.

Hehe.... The principal moved every trophy that wasn't a state championship or runner-up trophy into storage a couple of years ago.
They thought all of the soccer ones were just the same as a district trophy.

I found a trophy that might be the missing trophy. Anybody have a pic of what the championship trophy in 1982 would have looked like? It is bigger than the runner-up trophies that I have found.

Updated through 2019-2020 playoffs...
Anyone want to go and search and link articles from the missing championship game articles?
