There wasn't a 2nd team during the last several years in the prior III-9 with Franklin, Lusher, Newman, Haynes, and De la salle. I read the announcement from the Coach as indicating that is the way it is continuing. That's a shame, I don't see why not having a second team, every other district has one or at least have honorable mentions too It probably cuts both ways -- it's not all bad to have a very selective all-district team (makes the honor that much more special--I like this aspect). But since it looks like team was apportioned by district finish (CD-5, Newman-3, Lusher-2, De La Salle-1), I agree that honorable mentions might be nice for those instances where deserving players existed but no spots were available to fill (maybe the coaches thought this wasn't the case this year, or at least not to the level to deviate from district by-laws). Then again, it's easy to be a consultant. I'm not really sure which system is best. I'm sure the by-laws were created because past coaches (at some point) had proved themselves unreliable or not knowledgeable when it came to all-district selections. Personally, I've seen districts with no rules on nominations/selections and been pleased and displeased with coaches' objectivity, and I have seen districts with apportionment by district finish and still felt both ways. In a perfect world, you would be able to count on coaches only selecting best of best. But in the end, all-district teams, however determined, will be a by-product of imperfect, subjective determinations by imperfect, good-intentioned (for the most part) coaches.....and thus (obviously) never pleasing to all.

I see your point pOkle, but I just feel that kids should have a better chance in earning this. I know it's not a huge honor but still I bet some kids would like to say they made all district and it gives them a confidence booster going into the next year and to be able to tell their friends and stuff like that

I can easily name 4-5 players (without even trying) who deserve it and my headliner would be Luca A. (I thought he would be all district for sure.) It wouldn't take long to come up with a quality 2nd 11 from this district.
