hdkjga recently brought up the possibility of us getting a chat room, which I am looking into. That got me thinking if there is anything you would like us to do on these boards. What improvements or changes would you have us make if you were in charge?

I'd like to see a section on the General page dedicated to referees.

My suggestion would be to create specific boards for each division, seems sometimes when items are discussed most of the relevance is to a particular division.
Blessings to all!

I disagree about separating the divisions. I think doing so would create three weaker message boards instead of one strong one. I would possibly consider raising the number of threads per page, though. Not too much. Maybe just from 20 to 25 or 30. Definitely no more than 30.

I also like the idea of a referee board.

Yes, great Idea on raising the # of threads per page. It should definitely be a lot higher. I'd say even up to 40. I don't think you can have too many threads on the front page, but yeah, make that a lot bigger.
Instead of seperating the divisions into different messageboards, why not have a seperate Junior Varsity Forum, and possibly a freshmen forum? The chat room would be neat, but you gotta think of censorship, and how the chatrooms will be policed. I'm sure you've already though of that, but just making sure.

Hey fishbish...you KNOW timmy has thought or is thinking about how to police chatrooms.
The reason I wouldn't get too crazy about the number of threads per page is because of load speeds. I would be interested to see the numbers, but I would imagine that a lot of people on this board are still using dial-ups. Also, it seems that sometimes the proboards server has a little trouble keeping up with the traffic on the site. At least that's my perception.

It's just a bunch of links. Text doesn't take blazing speed to load . About the policing. Alls I meant is that there isn't always going to be a moderator around to police the chatrooms.

for each link, the script has to go back and retreive the information from the database or file that all the information is stored in. It is not really like having 20 or 40 hyperlinks on a page. You are right, the difference in load time there would be minimal. Each time the page is loaded, the script has to read when each thread was last modified, then sort them, then loop through them one by one to display the information you see on the first page. The difference in load can be noticeable, especially on a public server such as this one and especially on a dial-up connection.

if you do make a chat room for this.. the divisons should be seperated.. so that we arent talking about 3 divisions all at once.. that would be really confusing

Well alls I gotta say, screw the people that are still using dial-up! That's what, like less than 10% of the people that post here? I don't think we should hold back because of them.

The post times are one hour off. Can this be corrected or do we just wait until Daylight Savings Time when they are correct again?

Thanks CatchABishFish. I guess I didn't scroll down far enough when I set this thing up. I feel like such a dweeb. So, care to devulge the story behind your screen name?

Heh, It came from an episode of Doggie Fizzle on the Televizzle. Basically Snoop was going around telling all these women to "Catch a fish", and well "Bish" hmmm, if I told you what that means I'd probably have to change my screen name. I'll let you figure that one out.
I'm sure many people think i'm some fishing freak too. I don't fish much.

The only real problem I have with Proboards (I use it myself for a Fantasy Football league) is that when you open a thread you don't go to your last unread post. Some of the threads here at LaPrepsoccer get pretty long so you have to find the last page and then locate your first unread message.
the default smilies are kinda lame. I bet ya'll could find some soccer related smilies.

First of all, this board has now become my favorite. After many years just coming to read the posts and rarely posting, I have lately been posting a lot. I use to post a lot at Nola but it seems to be lacking this year. I use to post there a lot every year, but the chats are usually the same old stuff. I still post occasionally, especially when I see a game. This is something all of us should do. Post your synopsis of the games that you watch. As for improvements, I would like to see more general posts from people. I wish to get in conversations, but it sometimes takes days to get responses to certain types of posts. I myself am a fan of international and professional soccer before high school and youth soccer. That is why I frequent bigsoccer, football365, and soccer365. But I like to converse with local people as we typically are viewing the same things.
