Another start for Patrick, but another loss for NYCFC. Jason Kreis' homecoming to Salt Lake was spoiled as RSL beat NYCFC 2-0. Once again, the NYCFC midfield didn't hold possession well enough and the defense was shambolic. Villa and Mullins rarely saw the ball in the attacking third. Those aren't problems that will go away quickly, and frustration is surely building.
Having only won once in their first 12 MLS matches, NYCFC are officially the worst team in MLS at the moment. Even the Montreal Impact, who have played 5 less games than them, have more points on the season thus far. If anything can save them, it's the fact that the East is so weak. All 10 teams in the West have at least 13 points, which makes them better than two of the Eastern teams that would make the playoffs if the season ended today.

Mullins comes on as a sub and gets the game winner against Philly. He received a throw-in, shielded the ball from the defender, and beat the keeper at the near post.

Goal for Patrick! Came on late in the game against the Philadelphia Union to score the winner in the 87th minute. NYCFC breaks their 12 game winless streak and gets three points for the first time since March.
NYCFC are still at the bottom of the MLS table, but things are looking up as Frank Lampard will come soon and David Villa is back from injury. There are even rumors Italian star Andrea Pirlo is on his way to the Bronx. We'll see how true they turn out to be, but that would be a great addition if they did indeed get him.

Tune in tomorrow at 3 pm CT on ESPN to watch Patrick and NYCFC play in the first ever "New York Clasico" against the NY Red Bulls at Yankee Stadium. One month ago, this game wouldn't have been any more exciting than any other MLS match, since NYCFC were in the league cellar while the Red Bulls were flying high. Now NYCFC is on a fantastic run of form with a four-match winning streak and NY Red Bulls are really struggling lately, so suddenly this match became a lot more important and a lot more competitive.
Andrea Pirlo is expected to confirm his transfer to NYCFC over the coming days, and there is even mention the of the possibility that he will announce it tomorrow in a special ceremony before the game. What a show that would be for the fans! I think it will take NYCFC a while to click as a team, but just imagine how good they will be once Lampard, Pirlo, Villa, and Mix Diskerud develop chemistry together. They will turn from the league laughing stock to suddenly a team that will challenge for the MLS Cup.

Not only will those high caliber players help the club but playing with world class players, whether in their prime or not, can only help improve Patrick's game individually. How great would it be for him to be added to the US roster for the next World Cup? Sent from my SM-G900V using proboards

NYCFC rebound from last week's brutal 3-1 drubbing (and it could have been a lot worse) by beating the Montreal Impact 2-1. Both NYCFC goals came from star David Villa.
Patrick started and played 80 minutes, assisting Villa on his first goal in the 36th minute. The Impact equalized with an Ignacio Piatti penalty kick in the 77th minute, and NYCFC responded immediately with a gorgeous David Villa free kick in the 82th minute.
NYCFC will gladly take the 3 road points as they look to build momentum heading into the summer break. Andrea Pirlo and Frank Lampard should join the team any day now. Steven Gerrard has already started training in Los Angeles.

Pirlo officialy signed with NYCFC this morning.
Lampard will debut this weekend, Pirlo the following. NYCFC is also looking at brining in a defender from Atletico Madrid. I don't think we'll really get to see NYCFC firing on all cylinders until late in the season, but if they make the playoffs, they will be tough to beat.

NYCFC and Toronto FC draw 4-4 in honestly one of the most entertaining games of soccer I've ever watched, at any level. Certainly the best MLS match I've ever seen, and I think those of you who follow MLS would agree. For an MLS game, the pace of this game was very, very fast compared to the usual slow, methodical standard of play in the league. Lots of quick restarts, through balls, and excellent counterattacks. Very similar to your average EPL match.
This game had absolutely everything a neutral could want: great goals, agonizingly close chances, fast pace, individual brilliance, individual poor play, great saves, fights off the ball, and an MLS record 4 penalty kicks.
The first 15 minutes of this game was uneventful, when out of nowhere goals just came flying in.
David Villa scored a beautiful free kick from the left wing to start the scoring in the 17th minute, bending it over the wall past a helpless Chris Konopka. Sebastian Giovinco had a chance to equalize immediately from the spot after a penalty was given for a pulldown in the box, but the "Atomic Ant hit the left post with his effort. NYCFC had the chance to make it 2-0 in the 29th minute after being awarded a penalty after a stupid foul in the box by a TFC defender. Villa's poor penalty kick was saved, but Patrick pounced on the loose ball and was rewarded with forcing an own goal to make it 2-0 after attempting to cross it back to Villa.
Then Giovinco found his groove late in the first half. He converted his second penalty attempt of the day after a foolish challenge by an NYCFC center back, who was promptly subbed off at halftime by a furious Jason Kreis. Toronto equalized immediately after thanks to a beautiful no-look backheel through ball to Giovinco, who finished from a tight angle to make it 2-2. TFC then got another to end the first half, as Giovinco cheekily finished a cross from the right with a chip over the goalkeeper to make it 3-2 to the visitors. It was the first hat trick in TFC history, and Giovinco incredibly managed three goals in just 9 minutes.
Giovinco had a great chance to score his fourth early on in the second half, only to be denied again by the left post after beating both center backs. He would rue that miss, as Villa equalized for NYC in the 65th minute after being brought down in the box during a 1v1 with Konopka. Villa buried his penalty kick this time to make it 3-3.
Toronto took back the lead in the 82nd minute when Giovinco pounced on a loose ball on the left wing raced past three defenders, and played across an easy tap-in to USA U-20 player Marco Delgado, who finished past Saunders to make it 4-3. NYCFC again responded immediately on a free kick. A poor attempted clearance across goal by TFC substitute Warren Creaville went straight to Mullins who put it past Konopka with a header to make it 4-4.
Both teams had a chance to win late in the match with scrambles in the box, but it finished a crazy 4-4 game. Both teams will be disappointed with all the missed chances and defensive lapses.
The Man of the Match was without question TFC's Sebastian Giovinco with 3 goals and an assist on the day. I thought this was Patrick's best game of his MLS career so far. For all intents and purposes scored twice, and was a menace all game. Nearly set up Villa several times.
As for NYCFC, they won't make the playoffs unless that defense improves significantly. Kreis is definitely looking at bringing in some defenders before the MLS summer transfer window closes in a few weeks.

Patrick's second game against his old club doesn't go as well as the first, as NYCFC lose 1-0 to New England.
The Revs continue their very unusual trend of starting off really well, going on a terrible losing streak in the summer, then rebounding. Last year they nearly won the MLS Cup. How far can they climb this year?

A great goal from David Villa has NYCFC up 1-0 at the half against fellow expansion team Orlando City. It was the Spaniard's 11th goal of the season. You may remember that these two teams played to a 1-1 draw in their first ever MLS game.
Patrick started the game on the bench with a certain man you might have heard of named Andrea Pirlo, who is expected to make his MLS debut today in the second half.
I never would have thought I'd ever see 3 World Cup winners in MLS at the same time, much less on the field at the same time. Kaka (2002 Brazil), Pirlo (2006 Italy), and David Villa (2010 Spain) will all be on the same field in the second half. At one point Thierry Henry and Youri Djorkaeff (both France 1998 WC winners) were also in MLS. Pirlo and Kaka were teammates for many years at AC Milan, including the 2007 Champions League winning team.

To add to the big names entering MLS this summer, Didier Drogba officially joined Montreal Impact today.
Shawn Wright-Phillips will join his younger brother Bradley at New York Red Bulls.
There are even rumors of Japanese star Keisuke Honda making a move to the Seattle Sounders from AC Milan.

Final 5-3 NYCFC over Orlando City. David Villa with a brace for the hosts in front of a 32K crowd at Yankee Stadium, Canadian international Cyle Larin with a hat trick for the visitors, but in vain.
One thing is for sure: NYCFC can really score. That's 9 goals in the past 2 games now. If they can figure out how to sort the defense, and I'm sure Kreis will, they'll be a very dangerous team. The scary thing is that Lampard and Pirlo haven't even really settled into the team yet, and Mix Diskerud has been on international duty for a while!
I am a bit worried for Patrick that he might get lost in the shuffle a bit with so many talented offensive players on the team. He would be a no-doubt starter on a lot of MLS teams, but this isn't one of them. Still, being around Villa can't hurt his development.

NYCFC down 0-2 at halftime to Montreal Impact, with shambolic defending once again being the reason. We'll see what adjustments Kreis makes for the second half.
It will be interesting to see what reception Frank Lampard gets from the home fans, as he's expected to come on in the second half. I would imagine it'll be mostly cheers, but definitely some boos and jeers as well. Some are still very unhappy with how poorly the Lampard contract situation was handled.
Too bad Didier Drogba isn't ready to debut today, as it would have been a re-union of two Chelsea legends.

NYCFC played a bit better in the second half, but it was too late, as Montreal beat NYCFC 3-2. Well-deserved win for the Impact. NYCFC will have to improve that defense if they want to make the playoffs.

Patrick and NYCFC take on rivals NY Red Bulls for the third and final time this season. The Red Bulls have won both previous meetings, so Jason Kreis and his men will look to right the ship.
The game is at 6pm CT on Fox Sports 1.

Red Bulls fan section showing a hilarious tifo that says "New York City Retirement Home" with Pirlo and Lampard walking around with gray hair, walking canes, and achy backs.
Part of me wants to see both of them score today, then troll the opposing fans by limping around with achy back celebrations.

Rough day the office for Red Bulls' midfielder Felipe, who has his shorts ripped clean in half on national television by David Villa.
/photo/1
Jerseys get damaged in games all the time, but I've never seen or heard of shorts getting torn apart until now.
That never would have happened with the USA's stonewashed denim uniforms from the 94 World Cup. Stonewashed denim is indestructible. Adizero fabric, not so much. Light as a feather.
