Nat Central wins in PK shootout over Sulphur.
Sulphur scored first to take a 1-0 halftime lead. NC scores with 22 minutes left in the game to tie it 1-1. Sulphur scores in first OT, NC scores in second OT. They play two more 5 minute periods, still tied 2-2. PKs went like this;
Sulphur 1 NC 1 Sulphur 2 NC X Sulphur X NC 2 Sulphur 3 NC 3 Sulphur X NC 4 - game over NC wins 4-3 on PKs.
It was a hard fought game by both teams, neither team wanted to lose. Nat Central's #13 & #4 played really good soccer. NC had several good scoring chances in second half. Sulphur's goalie played a great game, made some good saves. Good luck to Nat Cental in the next round.
And Congrats to our girls on a good year, they have no reason to hang their heads.

Lots of really close games in this first round, much more so than I expected. By my estimate, 9 out of the 16 matches were close. A couple of 1 or 2 goal games, a couple of games going to OT or PKs, Hahnville holding Mandeville scoreless for 50+ minutes, Parkway pulling a big upset, just lots of good action (from what I've read). I have to say, I was very impressed watching Denham Springs. Lots of very good young players (most of the starters are freshman/sophomores). If they can add a little bit more depth as their freshman and sophomores mature they'll be a top-10 team or very close. They also had to use three different keepers--the starter played the first half after just getting her arm out of a cast just today or yesterday, the second keeper hit her head jumping for a save and had to leave, and the third keeper was one of their good field players. Ultimately Chapelle had too much pace and skill up top and took advantage of the Denham Springs defense. Denham Springs possessed the ball well, but couldn't get enough shots off. I'd love to hear some more detailed reports about the games, even if it's just newspaper reports. nola.com had a brief write-up of some of the NOLA-area teams in action tonight, as well as another report from last night.

As previously reported, Dutchtown 4 Terrebonne 3 at Dutchtown.
Dutchtown scores in the first 30 seconds on a powerful shot from the wing and scores again 8 minutes later on a shot from the top of the 18. Dutchtown pushes the lead to 3-0 at the 20 minute mark of the 1st half. Terrebonne gets a goal back early in the 2nd half but Dutchtown scores on a free kick with everyone looking for an offsides call to go up 4-1. Terrebonne gets 2 more goals back and is in great position to get the equalizer with a shot at point blank range but Dutchtown's left back comes in at the last second to save the GK who was already beaten. Game ends 4-3.
