A situation arose in a game Monday. A player received his second yellow, was ejected but replacement allowed ... i.e. a "soft red" was issued. A coach protested that the soft red was eliminated in 2012-13 season, but both CR and AR did not agree.
This situation has occurred several times in games this year, and with the playoffs here, I looked it up. NFHS Rule 12-8-2c was changed in the NFHS rule book for 2012-2013 eliminating soft red. It now reads.... 12-8-2c: When a player receives a second caution in the same game, he/she will be disqualified with a red card and the team will now play the remainder of the game without replacing the disqualified player (play shorthanded). The yellow and red card that was previously given for the second caution has been eliminated.
Just thought I'd share this.

please let the assignor know so that they can try to cut this off before it happens in a playoff game. not the firtst time it has happened this year, and it has been discussed in meetings. unfortunately, it is often the case that those most in need of attending the meetings are absent.

This also happened in the first district game between Northshore and Mandeville. Center called a soft red and NS player remained in game. All refs should be urged to know this rule or lack thereof. Now, red is red.
