I was looking at state tournament fornats and scrolled down a bit. It says that to be eligible to send teams to state tournament competition, a club must have registered with LSA a minimum of 70 total players.
Seems like this may eliminate small startup clubs without rec programs. Just curious as to your thoughts.

Doesn't take many teams once you hit 11 v 11 soccer. Most rosters hold at least 15-16, so you'd only need 5 teams above U13. It would prevent me from forming the Barnacle Soccer Club with just one team from competing, but I think most competitive programs can easily meet this requirement. It would be interesting to know if any clubs were disallowed due to this rule this year or in the past.

The number was previously 44 per the November 2013 policy and was apparently changed to 70 during the April 4th weekend meeting. The new policy goes into effect for the 2015-16 season so the smaller clubs will have an extra year to try and grow their numbers.

Do those total numbers include rec players? Seems like it would if they were registered with LSA. I can think of one club that might have issue.

I think I know one or two offshoots of other clubs that rule may have specifically targeted. It is designed to protect the larger clubs from competition.

I have mixed feelings about this. I can see the argument about diluting the talent etc but then having an alternative can be a good thing. All kids don't do equally well under certain systems. Sometimes a different method works better for others.
Don't know what the answer is.

Sometimes a club gets so big and top heavy, folks feel overlooked and would like some choice.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using proboards It is under the Policy 311 Competitive Teams/League/State Cup section so I assume it pertains to competitive registered players. One club here in Lafayette will not meet the criteria although only 1 of their 4 teams participate in league/state.

The rule states that a club must have at least 70 registered players by October 1 in order for a team to participate in state cup. It was increased from 44 but goes into effect for 2015-2016.
LSA rules currently state that a new club is supposed to have 70 players for approval, so this makes the numbers consistent. The 70 number also includes recreational as well as competitive players.
