Guys We Played Against That Should Get All-State Consideration
Ben Franklin- Dante Oliver and the GK Northlake Christian- Mason Cook and Josh Landry St. Louis- Mac Thompson Denham Springs- Cam Hilliard Acadiana- Kade Kling Vandebilt- Zac Breaux Pope John Paul II- Blake Dalferes St. Amant- Briggs Bourgeois
Guys I've Seen Play That Should Get Consideration
University- Thomas Kobetz and Miguel Vilas Jesuit- Chase Rushing Brother Martin- Miles Francis Beau Chene- Juan Carlos Brita and David Smith Catholic- Josh Campbell Grace King- Wilmer Toro
Guys I Haven't Seen Play This Year That Should Get Consideration
St. Paul's- Colin Hanley, Eric Guin, Barrack Roberts Mandeville- Devin Pathoumthong (sorry if I butchered the name) Tioga- German CM
From St. Michael, I think Mitchell Williams (45 goals, 18 assists) and Alex Silva (led defense to 20 shutouts) should be on the D-II first team without question. I think both guys would start on any team in the state, including St. Paul's. Both have also been nominated for the All Star game and both have the opportunity to play in college if they choose to do so.
I think LB Joel DeRobertis (23 goals, 8 assists), FW Ashton Fletcher (18 goals, 34 assists), and DM Mark Segalla (10 goals, 11 assists) also deserve to be considered for at least the second team. All five boys are excellent players, and a key part of the best season we've had in 21 years.
Even if our season ended a bit earlier than we would have liked, I do honestly believe these boys are five of the best players in Division II. Hopefully the coaches will agree.

I have two from Leesville. #22 striker/midfielder Pablo Chavez. Leads the team and district in goals, 4th in points in the division last time I checked. #4 centerback William Thomas. If anyone has played Leesville they'll know what I'm talking about. Tons of hustle and heart, and if he loses the ball in his defending third, he will chase it from touchline to touchline to get it back. He leaves everything on the field game in game out.

While I like you enthusiasm, you admitted you haven't even seen then play, how can you think they deserve consideration? I am not saying they don't, as I have seen 4 of those 5 and I think those do. My point is, you, having not seen them, do you really have an opinion on them either way?

Wow, Very bold statement...

I saw all except the Tioga kid last year, and they were all All-State caliber players then, so it goes without saying they've only improved since. Heck, Hanley is probably one of the best high school keepers in the country, let alone the state of Louisiana. I don't have to see them play this year to know that they're 4 of the best players in the state.
As for the Tioga kid from Germany, I've seen and heard multiple testimonies from several coaches as to how good he is. I'll be surprised if he doesn't get some votes.
And yes, I do believe Mitchell and Alex are two of the best players in the state at their positions and that they would start for any team in the state. Both have played for the BRSC Black teams and other high-level travel teams for their whole youth careers. Anyone who has seen them play can testify as to how good both of them are. Even as freshmen they stood out on the field. Several BR area coaches are very glad they won't have to play them again!

While I believe the young man from Tioga is a very talented player, I am not so sure of All-State being the caliber.
I will pose this:
In two matches against Leesville he did not register a single point. Does this mean he is not "All-State", or does it mean the Leesville defense is deserving of some recognition for shutting down an "All-State" level player?
Either way, he is a great player. I just think quite a few people are hopping on the hype train too easily.

I get it, everybody thinks their players are the best, those are the ones you see every day. I am not sayjng these 2 are not great players, they are. I have seen them play dozens of times, I know them both, personally, and they know me. I am not taking anything away from what they have accomplished. I don't think they are tops in their position in the state. No need to ask "anyone who has seen them play", I have seen them myself, and as I stated, multiple times. If I have this opinion, others might. My initial comment was, that was a bold statement. Actually I didn't even say at the time that I disagree (as you can tell by now, I do). I stand by my comment.....that was a bold statement.

While it would be easy and reasonable to list almost every starter for St. Paul's, two young men have escaped recognition on this thread.. Byron Morgan and Davis Neitzschman. These to boys are true impact players. Davis has an incredible work rate, deceptive speed, and a knack for finding the back of the net..repeatedly in a single game. Byron is a complete midfielder who can morph seamlessly from holding to attacking in a flash. He has all the tools and weapons a coach could ask for and can be really creative in using them. Both of these guys are quite capable of making it at top collegiate programs and should clearly be considered for all-state honors.

I see too much hype centered around Sulphur's Ashton Reel. He is surrounded by a team filled with other not-so-impressive players, causing his skill set to be accentuated on the playing field. The fact that he is a mediocrely talented striker on a weak team should not cause him to be put up for All-State. Once he took foot on the field against, finally, a decent team like Mandeville, he was a non-factor and unimpressive.
Another thing that has been bothering me is the fact that most teams/coaches have been nominating players based on their stats. Mandeville High has been playing weak teams all year long, causing for their forwards to have impressive stats, such as their forward Devin P. Any decently skilled striker from D1 should be able to put up 3-5 goals against Destrehan. However, once he is matched up against any DECENT defense, he is shut down almost completely. Against the only considerable teams on their schedule in the regular season, when he faced St. Paul's, Brother Martin, Northshore, he issued a measly 1 assist.
On the other hand, you have players that do not receive recognition but should deserve them. St. Paul's defense has given up 9 goals (prior to their semifinal game tonight) all year, all while playing one of the hardest schedules a LHSAA soccer varsity team has ever encountered. Center back Colin Ross does not receive the recognition he deserves as the rock that holds down the defense. Another suggestion is Byron Morgan. He does not have the stats that some others have, but if you watch a single game, you will realize that he is the best center midfielder in state. Last year in the state finals, there was much hype focused around Nester and Isham from Grace King and how they will destroy the midfield. Byron Morgan, at CDM, along with Eric Guin had easily shut down the "best midfield" in state. Hopefully many people will understand the impact of these players if they get the win tonight and have the chance to play in the State Finals in a week.
