hey fish i was one of the refs in the st louis - acadiana game in 98. thats the game that was played at acadiana as a warm up for the playoffs. if you were there you know the ref called the game with 20 min. left. he had already tossed the acadiana coach and had taken back a red on the st louis coach. the score was 2-1 acadiana when the game was called. st louis was very good that year and i am not sure who the best in the state was that year but both of those teams were awesome. thats why i posted in an earlier post that THIS YEAR div1 has the best team. ( that was a crazy game were you there?)

Yes, I was definitely at that game. I think that was a little while after St. Louis had beaten Acadiana in PKs in the finals of the Sulphur Tournament (probably one of the best high school games I've ever seen), so the game was really really huge. I thought it was pretty funny that the ref took away St. Louis's Coach's red card, but I guess Acadiana's coach didn't find it too funny, hah. I remember just thinking "Where are the refs going??!" And they just ran off the field and left. Such a shame. Would have loved to see that game.
I thought it was a lot earlier in the game though, when the game was called. Maybe my memory is bad.
Oh yeah, and since you were a ref at the game, did you find out exactly what the center ref's reasoning was for taking away the red card? Was he just a bad ref or what?

yea i know why! i was the ar on that side of the field. the coach and center got into a discussion about a call. the center told the coach to go sit down, when the ref turned away the coach turned and said ok i'll sit. the ref thought he said something else so he red carded him. the coach went crazy and said ask your ar what i sald. the ref did and i told him the truth. thats when he took the card back. remember this was a friendly to warm up for the playoffs. thats when the acadiana coach went real crazy, (i never understood why, because it was a friendly tune up), and the ref carded him off. after that the entire group of asst. coaches, (we use to call them the committe) went on the field towards the ref. he got very nervous and called the game.
it was a shame because it was a very good game and the kids really wanted to finish it. we had to have a police escort off the field and into the parking lot. it was pretty bad.
actually the center was a very good ref. he was one of the highest ranking refs in lafayette at that time. he took the card back because he knew both teams were using this game as a warm up, it did't have any bearings on the teams playoff bracket or anything. we were told it was a friendly tune up for state, that why, (i think) he took the card back. i just don't understand why the acadiana coach made such a big deal over it. he should have said "who care if the coach is on the bench or not". anyway the kids are the ones that got screwed that night.

Hah. Wow, I finally know the truth after like 5 years. I guess the real mistake was not consulting you before issuing the red card, since he couldn't have clearly heard what was said.
