St. Louis now 11-1 in championship games. Only loss was in 2002 to St. Martin's.

You just had to mention that one loss eh Scott. Can't we just forget about that one?

St. Louis now 11-1 in championship games. Only loss was in 2002 to St. Martin's. I think winning earlier titles gives them a very confident aura that helps them fight through big games.
I wouldn't call it overconfidence, more like "We going to win, because that's what we've always done." It's a huge mental advantage.

I can assure you that if there was film of NLC taking pks, st louis' coach got his hands on it and made sure his keeper knew which direction eachieve player shoots.
Like I said earlier in this thread, there is one constant in all of STL'a championships, and he works tirelessly to make sure his team has the best chance to win.

Wow brings back memories eh Bish? Congrats to Coach O and entire St.Louis program. Haha. Well, I never was in as exciting of a game as this one sounds. But yeah. It's a great feeling to win it all after working so hard all year.

Like I said earlier in this thread, there is one constant in all of STL'a championships, and he works tirelessly to make sure his team has the best chance to win. I would imagine he attended the University-Northlake game and took notes of where the NLC players took their PKs. That's what I would do.
Of course there's no guarantee that a player will aim for the same spot any given two attempts, but the odds are in your favor. Most PK takers practice aiming for the same spot until they can do it almost without thinking.

Does anyone know if there is a lost and found associated with Tad Gormley or the state championship games?

Does anyone know if there is a lost and found associated with Tad Gormley or the state championship games? Guess you gotta be first in line to see Loyola/Ben Franklin tomorrow

This was a great game! Very good teams that left it all on field. Wind played factor in game. Both teams with different styles, but both played very physical and very clean game. I was very impressed how St Louis improved from Copa to now. Just shows how great of program they have! It's such an incredible feat to watch them lose classes of 14 or 16 seniors and win state the following year. I know the yea that they beat us was one such year where they lost that whole big class that had won 3 in a row with Marty France and Cironi and company... Just amazing job Coach Oertling does there.
As for Northlake... They are a great team and I thinkmback to when Nick was bringing a team of mostly eight and ninth graders to Copa going toe to toe with the big dogs like UhIgh at the time and yiu could see a powerhouse in the making. Being in title game 4/5 years is a great achievement. I was especially impressed, as I was earlier in season at our game as well as at Copa, with #18 Humphrey, the defender. Defenders don't get much mention, but that kid amazed me all night as those in the press box can attest to.
All in all... Great match and I look forward to rest of weekend!

what's the attendance tonight? anyone have pictures of the crowd? Scott... They didn't tell fans to stay on one side so the crowds are split up instead of together... So it's hard to tell as most off St Louis is on normal, side fans are on while,Northlake fans are on opposite side behind benches. I hope they fix this tomorrow. I also, hope we fix this as a regular season thing as more and more since the NFHS rule disappeared sometime a few years back about being on one side for high school fans, there are some places where student sections sit behind opponents benches and others across and not all,on one side. Personally... All,fans should be opposite side from benches with fans sitting on the side of midfield in the opposite side bleachers that their team bench is on... Like in club but in a stadium.

PK by #15 for NLC, not #12. Even PA announcer got it wrong. Are you sure... Entire press box of nearly 30 saw #15 bring ball to spot then leave box and then after some talking, #12 took it. But once again, we could be wrong. Please let us know who really scored the PK. We do know #7 Josh Landry win the PK from the foul while trying to pass to a wide open player in box at PK spot.

It's crazy to think that there are very few, if any STL players that have gone through the program in the last 10 years and not obtained a ring.

Any neutral person want to comment on how legit the pk was? That press box is pretty far from the field and you can't hear anything in it. So pinpointing the exact moment and foul was impossible for those of us upstairs to get a good grip on. The AR may have signaled the referee thru the pager and to the referee's credit, he did confer with the AR to verify the call, and the AR might have had the best view of what happened. Some animated discussion with the STL coach between the kick awarded and the kick taken, again, unsure of what was said but it looked like the referee conveyed what happened to the coach.

Thanks. Just wanted to know if it was some ticky tack call or if it was really warranted.

It sure looked to me like all of the fans were on the opposite side of the stadium from the teams. There may have been around ten stragglers on the same side as the teams, but very few. The fans were pretty evenly distributed (St. Louis had the north bench, Northlake the south one), with students below the main walkway and parents and other fans above. St. Louis had a large and vocal turnout. I arrived during pre-game introductions, and as I was walking in to the stadium I thought at that time the St. Louis fans outnumbered the Northlake ones by about 2:1. It became much more balanced out early in the game and was closer to 50/50 as the game progressed. Large student turnout by both schools. As far as crowd size, I'd say 1,000 to 1,500. The only other final I have been to at Tad Gormley was Jesuit-St. Paul's in 2013 and it was nowhere near that crowd size, but I wouldn't have expected it to be. I do wish the concession stands had stayed open later. A lot of people went down to the stands at the end of regulation/start of OT to get something but the concession area was closed off.
