Interesting that 18's play two TX-S teams? Yes, interesting that it worked out that way. Lonestar Red is the South Texas state champ, and Albion Hurricanes as the state runner-up apparently was invited to replace a state that didn't send a team. It was a random draw, so those two happened to end up in the same group with us. We are expecting tough games from both of them, and also from the OK state champs on Sunday!

Good luck to all teams. May the weather be much more cooperative than it was for the Presidents Cup.

Some game schedules and locations have been changed due to weather in Little Rock. All Friday games have been delayed 2 hours. Games scheduled for Otter Creek Park have been moved to either Verizon Fields or Maumelle Soccer Complex.

Because of the result of the other game in U18 LA Fire's group, LA Fire is guaranteed to win the group and advance to the semifinals at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday. Not sure who the opponent will be, but obviously we want to finish strong in the group tomorrow against TSC Hurricane!

Louisiana Fire U18 Girls win 4-1 over TSC Hurricane (OK) to wrap up group play. Waiting to find out semifinal opponent at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday. Tomorrow is a day of rest. Louisiana Fire U18 Girls will play FC Alliance Black (Knoxville, Tennessee) in the semifinals. FC Alliance advanced by winning their group with 2 wins and 1 tie. This will be a rematch of the 2013 championship match at Regionals in which Fire won 1-0 in overtime. The two teams met recently on 5/2/15 in Birmingham and Fire won 4-0, but we understand they have added players to their roster since then from their U17 team who didn't make it to Regionals. This will be the 10th time Louisiana Fire and FC Alliance have played each other over the last 6 years, with Fire holding a 7-2-0 head-to-head advantage. The other semifinal will be SCU/MP Elite (SC) vs. Albion Hurricanes (TX-S). Semifinals -- Tue. 6/23 at 8:15 AM Burns Park Field #17 97G FC Alliance Black (TN) vs. 97G LOUISIANA FIRE NAVY (LA)

Mandeville Lakers U17G into the quarterfinals with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Lonestars of South Texas! Go-ahead goal about 20 minutes into the second half by Sydney Vincens. The two teams were competing directly for a quarterfinal spot after both took a win and a loss in their opening two games, but the Lakers had to get the win today because a tie would've advanced Lonestars on goal differential. A great display of defensive solidarity, patience, and opportunistic finishing in a game between two teams who were very well matched.
In the final minutes, the Lakers put the game away on an unbelievable goal. The Lakers hit the crossbar, the rebound was knocked away by the keeper on a 1-on-1, the second follow-up hit the crossbar again by another player, before it finally fell to the same Laker player whose initial rebound was saved and she lunged out her leg to knock it in. I've just been told it was Sydney Vincens again, who got both goals. One of the most dramatic goals I have seen in a long time, right near the end to seal it 2-0. The only sour note was the Lonestar goalkeeper appearing to be seriously injured on the play and had to be carted off, screaming and crying in pain. But a great goal to end a great game.
MSC Lakers U17G will play Tampa Bay United Premier (FL) in the quarterfinals at 10:45 AM on Tuesday 6/23. Good luck!

What's even better is Sydney Vincens plays on our U14 team along with the goalkeeper Elizabeth Kalmbach.
Congrats to all LA teams advancing!

GOAL!! Noelle lifts one for Kass to run on to, the defender makes a frantic lunge and unfortunately (for her) kicks it past her rushing keeper into her own net.
1-0 Louisiana Fire!
