Mexico - Costa Rica, one of the few games I'm actually excited about. Winner of this game ends up in the final against US? Very possible. This is definitely going to be an intense, exciting game. The two teams played last month in a friendly in Orlando, and drew 2-2. Costa Rica controlled most of the game, I would say. But that Mexico team had Hector Moreno, Giovani dos Santos, and Javier Hernandez, while the Mexico squad today will not. We'll see how much losing 3 of their 4 best players really affects Mexico this time. Their back line was really bad against Trinidad. Kenwyne Jones was tossing the Mexican players around like ragdolls. Joel Campbell is capable doing the same.
I have a feeling Mexico will choke again and we'll play Trinidad and Tobago in the final.
Costa Rica hasn't really played well lately, in fact they haven't won a single game this year, but they'll definitely be fired up to beat Mexico. No doubt about that. All of the Central American countries enjoy beating Mexico even more than we do in the States. It's very personal to them.

Trinidad and Panama headed to extra time after Blas Perez misses an absolute sitter. Tied 1-1. Panama have dominated the game.

What was a very boring game to watch ends in the most exciting way possible. Panama advances 6-5 after 9 rounds of penalties. Both teams were pretty terrible today, but I would say Panama deserved to win more than T&T did. Too bad CONCACAF can't just eliminate both teams and replace them with Haiti, who would at least be some fun to watch.
I know Panama upset Mexico in the last Gold Cup, but I would be stunned if that happens this time. If Mexico loses before the final, it almost has to be tonight against Costa Rica.

This game is going to get brutal. Not even 15 minutes in, and already 2 Costa Rican yellow cards. One was for a dive.
Looked like a foul to me, but when you have a history of diving, the ref isn't gonna give you the benefit of the doubt.

Costa Rica misses a golden chance on a breakaway. Horrible miss. CR the better team so far. Mexico not doing anything really threatening.

Scoreless at half. Much better game than the first.
Have to think Miguel Herrera is coaching for his job. All the pressure is on him and his team. They're not responding well so far. Lots of clumsy giveaways that a better team would punish them for.

As a side note, those are the ugliest Mexico uniforms I've ever seen. Rather than the classic green shirt, white shorts, red socks combination, they've chosen a bizarre black and lime green color scheme for some reason. Not a good look.
Not as bad as those awful neon yellow jerseys Japan wore in the World Cup, though. That will probably be the ugliest modern international jersey for quite some time.

Several close calls for Costa Rica, but Mexico still has not scored despite many great chances. Still scoreless headed to extra time.
Mexico has no subs remaining, while the Ticos have one.
Being scoreless headed to extra time is a scenario Costa Rica is very comfortable with. Mexico, not so much.

Still scoreless halfway through extra time. Both teams look exhausted.

What an absolute joke. CONCACAF refereeing is a disgrace to the sport.
Mexico steals a win thanks to a last-minute phantom penalty call. Mexico deserve no more from this game than Costa Rica did. They should be taking penalty kicks right now. The man who drew the penalty should have been sent off via red card for a brutal off-the-ball foul.
It's clear the fix is in, again. Mexico will make the final whether they deserve to be there or not. Hopefully CONCACAF feels like allowing the US to join them.
What a joke.

What a move by JK to play chandler against cuba to make him look better. JK isn't fooling me. Beasley should have been playing and should start the next game. Why not play Alan Gordon against cuba to get him minutes?
TnT had opportunities to win the shootout and BLEW IT. Keeper should have saved perez's shot which was RIGHT AT HIM. Then the dude skies it when he can win it? come on Tnt.....
What a disgrace CONCOCAF rerfs are to the game. Mexican player should have had a red for the scissor challenge and then....that pk.........how...?.....
Mexico = divers. they could beat the chinese diving team for sure. Just give them the gold medal already. This ref should be fired IMMEDIATELY. He shouldnt even be allowed to watch a soccer game ever again. Almost as bad as the call when USA played Slovenia at the 2010 WC. Costa Rica deserved the shootout. Oh and Ochoa finally cut his stupid hair.

I heard after the game that Klinsmann was going to start Beasley against Cuba, but he tweaked his calf in training on Friday, so Jurgen wanted to let him rest. I think we'll definitely see DaMarcus at some point. Probably Gordon too, as a super-sub.

Ah ok. I only got to se the second half so I must have missed them saying that. Hopefully he plays tonight because Chandler's screw ups could be REALLY bad against an athletic team like jamaica.

Horrible start from the US. Down 2-0 at half to Jamaica.
We fired Bob Bradley for this type of Gold Cup. While I don't think firing Klinsmann would be a good idea, if we go on to lose this game, US Soccer officials should have a serious reflection on where we are as a team.

Whatever Jurgen said at halftime seems to have worked, as Michael Bradley immediately pulls one back for the US.
2-1 to Jamaica in the 48th minute.

Beckerman's play has been so poor he should not have been out there to cost us this game.

Final. 2-1 to Jamaica. US was much better in the second half, but too little too late.
I'm done defending this team. They were 90% favorites to win today, had a massive home crowd supporting them, and still lost. What a joke. This might legitimately be the low-point in the history of US men's soccer, at least since the 1998 WC. Absolutely embarrassing loss. First time the US hasn't made the final since 2003. We will be ridiculed around the world for this, and deservedly so. Klinsmann will suddenly find himself on the hot seat. Most of Jamaica's team isn't even from Jamaica, and we still can't find a better team than them in a country of 320 million. Ridiculous.
We need to completely rebuild this team. Guys like Beckerman, Evans, etc. are the past. Even if we take our lumps over the next few years, drop the old veterans that have nothing left and put young kids in their place. Build a squad that can compete in 2018. At this point, just forget about the 2017 Confederations Cup. Use the Copa America next year as a chance to build for the future.
We can still qualify for the Confederations Cup, but now we have to win a playoff against whoever wins this Gold Cup. Hopefully, it's not Mexico.
Hopefully this serves as a massive kick in the jaw for US Soccer to get its act together to avoid such embarrassments in the future.

Agree 100% with your thoughts. We had concerns when he rolled out his squad...supposedly going for aged veterans vs the hot young talent. Cost us dearly, and not just vs. Jamaica. We were extremely poor in bracket play and without Dempsey/Bradley, we crash out. Haiti and Honduras made us look really low rate for long segments. The only potential pain pill is that Mexico has looked poor too. Klinsman must surely be regarded as the National coach that cannot grasp sticking with a lineup. Our defense has gone through how many permutations? I swear, watching these lineups is like Klinsman has been playing years of non-stop preseason games.

What a disgrace. Hey guys I have an idea! Let's not start our fastest players against the fastest/most athletic team at the tournament! Seriously? Why is Evans started at RB against Jamaica? Why not play Yedlin or Beasley AKA FAST PLAYERS. Thank you Bradley for losing the ball in the center of the field AGAIN which lead to conceding a goal (Portugal). Way to miss a 1v1 Dempsey. What a horrific showing. Beckerman should be done. Bradley and Beckerman played like crap. Yeah he got a goal. he also lost the ball in the center of the field to a bigger stronger faster team who oh by the way is FASTER than we are. What do you do against fast teams? 1. Don't try to dribble 2 of their guys in the center of the field where they can get an easy counter. 2. PLAY YOUR FAST PLAYERS! And why is Alvarado still playing!? Alvarado is straight GARBAGE. Mattocks is the only player who challenged for the ball in the air. Alvarado cowered away like a scared little girl who has never seen a huge jamaican guy before. If a center back doesnt challenge for a ball in the air then he shouldnt be playing. put in gonzales and stop pretending that Alvarado is better. the team just hit all their fans in the face with a shovel and then gave them a middle finger. Disgrace. If USA doesnt win the confed cup playoff then the goal of making it to the WC semi final in 2018 is next to impossible. How does the team go from beating holland and germany to losing to JAMAICA!? Oh I know! by changing the roster so freakin much! "This roster beat germany? Well I have a great idea! I'm going to ditch more than half this roster and expect the same results! What could possibly change?" bye bye Beckerman. Ill miss your hair.
