Tonight was the worst I've ever seen the US play. We've lost by bigger margins before, but in terms of just how we played, I can't think of a worse performance. Even the 1990 and 1998 World Cup teams played better and with more passion and effort than this sorry group did tonight. The players should be ashamed of themselves. The fans would have had every right to boo them off the field. Brazil had no reason to care about this game, yet they outhustled us everywhere on the field. Our players couldn't be bothered to even pressure the ball. The Brazilians were just flying through completely untouched. What the heck was Alejandro Bedoya doing as a defensive midfielder? He's not built for that at all, and got absolutely torched by Willian and Douglas Costa. We were lucky to only be down 1-0 at the half.
Where was the effort? Where was the discipline? If this is the future of US Men's Soccer under Klinsmann, then it's gonna be a long and brutal next 4 years. After seeing tonight's performance, I seriously expect Klinsmann to be fired if we lose the playoff against Mexico. Sunil Gulati can play it off all he wants, but you can't say this is an acceptable performance. I don't trust Klinsmann to lead our team anymore. He preaches possession, yet our guys can't hold onto the ball against any good team to save their lives. What exactly are they doing at the training sessions? Our set pieces were also absolutely terrible, with Bradley either blasting the ball over everyone or shanking it into the first defender. Do we even practice them? Doesn't look like it.
I'm a very optimistic person, but it's games like this that make me very pessimistic about the future of the USMNT. Brazil made our guys look like amateurs. They were stringing together backheels and all kinds of fancy combination plays, while our guys couldn't even manage to hit a simple 10-yard square pass to save their lives. It was unreal. You wouldn't have thought some of our guys were experienced professionals by watching tonight's game. Brazil could easily have scored 8 tonight, while our only goal was a complete fluke longshot when David Luiz fell asleep in the 91st minute. We didn't even deserve that.
I have no optimism whatsoever heading into the Mexico game now. I expect us to get beaten handily. I was gonna watch the Mexico-Argentina match, but now I don't even care.

Lethargic effort, lethargic lineup, if our defense was a boat it would be sunk there are so many holes in it...apparently no pride...no one yelling to step up, even Guzan just took every goal in stride...

If you lose badly and honestly tried your best and left everything on the field, I can't ask anything more from you than that. Sometimes the opposition is just better. Tonight, however, our players couldn't be bothered. Show some pride. You're playing for the entire country, even those that hate soccer. There are millions of American boys out there who would love to be given that chance and would have put forth infinitely more effort. Just a shameful display across the board. I hope I never have to watch our national team put forth such a lack of effort again.

What a horrific display of sport. I'm just going to rant on random things: Bedoya is one of the weakest players I've ever seen. How do you get bodied out of the way by Willian!? I'm losing faith in altidore. His touch is nowhere good enough to play as a hold up. He should receive the ball facing the goal. Why is everyone so scared to take defenders on and go for goal!? There's no rule that says you have to pass your way into the goal. Go for it! On that note, screw the 1 checking striker method. It doesn't work. No top team plays with a checking striker. Play with TWO strikers PLEASE. Where is Dempsey? He is not injured anymore. He should see USA making the confed cup as more important than the sounders. Where is Fabian Johnson!? Why is orozco in any squad!? Why does kilns an not realize that besler Gonzales and brooks are the best CBs!? I define insanity as doing the same thing over and over and expecting things to change. JK is going insane... Our starting lineup should be as follows: Tim Howard (Guzan is not vocal enough. Howard is the true leader) Beasley LB Brooks, besler CBs Fabian Johnson RB mix diskerud LM creativity, ambition Germaine Jones CDM Michael Bradley CAM yedlin RM pace pace pace Altidore, Dempsey ST Beasley and Johnson are the best overlappers and defenders period at outside back. Yedlin and Johnson could even switch back and forth after runs I wouldn't mind Eddie Johnson coming back. He is average for club but that dude SCORES for the national team. Can you say first touch header goal on a corner sub?

What made me even more angry than game was the press conference afterwards when Jurgen Kilnsmann had the unbelievable arrogance to actually single out Bedoya and criticize his poor performance, as if it were Alejandro's fault he struggled out there against some of the best players in the world in a position he's never played in his life. What arrogance.
Imagine how Bedoya and the rest of the players feel listening to that crap. Jurgen never allows himself to be held accountable for his own ridiculous decisions. It's always somehow the player's fault. I have to think he is losing the locker room. No one besides Jordan Morris looked like they wanted to be there at all, and I've never seen an American team so lethargic in a match. Usually we are the team that always gives 100% despite our poor technical play and grinds out results against better teams through sheer hustle. There was none of that American feisty attitude last night.
Mexico played well against Argentina last night. I'll be stunned if we beat them on October 10. Who knows? We often play great against Mexico out of nowhere. Hopefully they'll be up for it.
