Refs need to have more cajones and begin to call ilegal throw ins.... Because believe me there is a bunch around here all through small youth levels to high school. Here is a link that basically covers this simple rule in its entirety. Pleasy pay attention to "have to use both hands", "feet cannot leave the ground until ball is out of hands" and for high school and upper age players the "basketball\baseball style throw in" where one hand is mostly used to give more distance to the throw illegally, So many players throw illegaly to acheive longer distances and refs are either misinformed or just dont bother with it. Either way the job is not being done correctly, to many illegal throw ins are being allowed to be taken. This come from years of being around the game around here

Both hands, correct. Yet, where does it say equal force? It doesn't. It simply says the ball is delivered from behind and over the head with both hands...also doesn't say it is not allowed to spin.

Spinning the ball?

We had one ref in club that called 4 illegal throws in a row. Finally both girls from both teams came up to him and asked what they were doing wrong. He said they weren't going far enough back- they both said their arms didn't go any further and asked if they needed to get someone else to take the throws. It's almost like he wanted them to do a backbend.
It was literally the strangest thing I have ever seen. He didn't call any more illegal throws after that even for picked up feet.

Very interesting points about paying attention to the throw v. the second to last defender. I think that the most common uncalled foul is the failure to deliver from behind and over the head. Behind the head? How many times do players lift ball only to the top of their head. Something to watch for this weekend.

Funny this comes up, because I think a lot of people involved in the game (spectators, coaches, players, refs) are too harsh or particular when it comes to throwing the ball in and restarting the game. I've been known to say "ugly but legal won't get you in trouble" in a couple of particular games where the guys might get it. Some people expect military precision during this restart and I. Can. Not. Stand. That.
I'm surprised no one wants to discuss the flip throw, which has a greater chance of sliding by than a standard throw.

there is also the bigger picture aspect: does Team A get a distinct benefit from the throw-in? Is it a five yard throw, or a 50 yard throw? Not wanting to throw fuel on the fire of narrow high school fields, but....
If Player #14 on Team A (wearing white, of course, with blue sliding shorts) makes a 5 yard throw in to player # 7 (also on Team A, wearing white, but with blue sliding shorts, and a red knitted cap) there had better be something majorly wrong with the throw for an AR to bring it my attention (mental image of a Tebow-esque jumping lob). Now, for a long ball that is thrown into the 18, then the bar is set a bit higher....

In the past week I've seen no fewer than 7 foul throw ins called...the poor refs cajones are so large now he needs to buy a bigger pair of shorts!
