Hand on it or do they have to be in control? Just a discussion we had last night- nobody did anything wrong.

It all depends. If your daughter is the keeper, then she has possession when she gets within arms distance. If your daughter is the charging forward, the keeper does not have possession until she actually punts the ball.

Her daughter is a keeper but I know she's asking to learn more, not to passive-aggressively be a jerk about it.
If the keeper has any part of the hand on any part of the ball, it is considered possessed.

Actually the incident that prompted discussion had a different keeper. We couldn't tell if she had a hand or not and were just discussing the rules. I ask questions to learn. I've been known to ask questions of ARs if they are agreeable. I learned a lot from a young AR in Alexandria recently.

If the keeper has any part of the hand on any part of the ball, it is considered possessed. I'll add to you statement pasttime2retire. If the keeper has any part of the hand on any part of the ball under his/her control, it is considered possessed. Ex. 1. The ball is coming in from a corner kick and the keeper jumps up and slaps it. The hand was on the ball but it was NOT in possession. Ex. 2. On a penalty kick the keeper blocks the shot, then dives on the ground and places his hand on top of the ball stopping it's movement. The hand is on the ball under control and it is considered IN his possession. Ex. 3. Keeper saves a shot and she has the ball resting in an open palm. It is in her possession. If she bounces it, it is in her possession. If she tosses it up in the air to herself, it is considered in her position. In any of those three scenarios, if an attacker tries to knock the ball away, they are guilty of interfering with the keeper in possession of the ball. Restart is an IDFK and a Caution to the attacker is warranted.
