I only visit this site to insight thought and hopefully change for the best of youth soccer until high school;)
It is rumored and I have not investigated, so I will not state any names or club at this time. However, 98% of ALL youth soccer rumors have a large degree of truth.
A coach from one of the large clubs allegedly harassed a tournament director to BLACKBALL a team from a small club or threatened to pull all the teams from his club.
This would be like me going through my cell phone calling the 71 coaches from college in my contacts repeating this and telling them not to look at girls from this club because they are not operating in the best interest of athletes. Any families affiliated must be of the same mindset. All of the coaches know I promote all kids and keep in contact, support and assist to the best of my ability the talent in our state.
Does LSA have a policy governing BULLYING and would they issue sanctions for this behavior?
What have we come to when we are willing to hurt children because we are so filled with HATE?

Yikes. Not much surprises me. Exhibit a , it's not about the kids anymore . not picking on just soccer either. But in all fairness, there are great coaches in all clubs big and small, and there bad ones in all clubs , big and small.

It's a shame. Soccer is becoming or maybe it's always been about the money. Honestly, in that regard, I miss the D1 days when there were a lot of small clubs who basically had rec teams start playing competitively.
I'm not going to get into the whole player development argument. I do know that it seemed like those kids were having a lot of fun and it was affordable. The team we play on now is about 1/3-1/4 what we were paying. My daughter doesn't want to play for a college team and she's getting enough to be one of the better ones on her high school team and enjoying herself.

Recent statistics do show the larger clubs are gaining more market share in competitive soccer in Louisiana. There are less of those competitive teams nowadays that formed out of rec leagues than there used to be. In my opinion it is nice to have both options. There were some very good multi sport athletes that often played on some of those teams. It also gave kids a chance to play soccer at a higher level before committing to one sport and helped strengthen high school programs, especially the ones that were not traditionally powerhouses. Same problems unfortunately with most other sports in this country.

The issue may be that there truly aren't enough soccer players to support both options especially st older ages. I just wonder how many quit that would have kept playing if these options still existed.

If it was a local tournament here in LA I guess it could happen. I've heard rumors about that for years. I don't think any LA clubs could possibly have enough influence to block another LA team in a larger regional or national tournament. In addition, and I am not trying to be rude but I don't think college coaches would blame a player because of a decision their club made.

You certainly know more about recruiting than I do.

If this is true then it should be dealt with ASAP. Send Dee Flint an email - I think he is the director of competitive soccer (dflint@frvf-law.com). You could also contact Tucker Reynolds at the office. Yes, there are by laws about coaches behavior. I do find it hard to believe this would have taken place this way. No club would tolerate a coach that behaved this way. I can almost guarantee the tournament director would have call the Director of the "Bully" club, and this coach would get reprimanded (at a minimum) and likely removed from the team. Even if you approach this from the idea of the clubs are just about the money, then its even more likely they would not tolerate that coaches behavior. That damages their brand. The large clubs are not worried about the small clubs. These big clubs are in it for the long haul and they know the smaller clubs, teams, players, and coaches will come and go.
