Anyone else spend their Saturday morning watching the USSF meeting? Carlos Cordeiro, the VP, won the election. He and Kathy Carter were seen as the "establishment" candidates, with six other candidates (including former national team players Hope Solo, Paul Caliguri, Kyle Martino, and Eric Wynalda) seen as "change" candidates. Carter seemed to be the favorite, but the athletes' council (who get 20% of the vote) apparently decided to support Cordeiro as a bloc.
What's interesting to me is that it seemed like many of the delegates at the meeting were at least somewhat unhappy with how USSF is being run. One delegate moved to cut USSF's per-player registration fee in half and got a huge ovation from the crowd. (Then the parliamentarian said that they couldn't vote to change that because the board would have to recommend any fee changes.)
Nevertheless, the two "establishment" candidates combined for about 71% of the vote on the first ballot. State youth and adult associations have about 50% of the vote. So they were obviously quite willing to back Carter and/or Cordeiro. It seemed like Cordeiro's big campaign push (at least in his speech at the meeting) was that he'd have the most experience and ability to get the 2026 WC bid.

We’ll see what he does as president.
I’m glad it wasn’t Carter, but was hoping for Martino.

The fact that it came to to Carlos and Kathy proves that those who run USSF do not care about the sport or those that play it. Cordeiro literally thanked poo-lati for INTRODUCING HIM TO THE GAME. You're telling me this dude isn't even someone who's been around soccer his whole life!? FACE PALM Once again the polls were dead wrong about an election. I thought it was for sure going to be wynalda or martino which made me very happy. Both obviously love the game, know the game, and want to improve the state of the federation. Both were horribly let down. WE were let down. The only silver lining - if you could even call it that - is Hope "rockem sockem" solo didn't win. Get ready for more of the same.

FACE PALM I was flabbergasted when I first heard that quote, but after I looked it up he played soccer growing up (including during HS in Miami) and I think he was referring to Gulati bringing him onto the USSF board. So I think he just misspoke.
