Power ratings do not matter. To be the best, you have to beat the best. Regarding the remarks directed at WMHS...
Caddo Magnet in 2001 and Byrd in 2016 are the only two North Louisiana teams to make the D-1 finals in the 40+ year history of Louisiana Girl's High School soccer. Loyola in 1998, 2013 and 2017 made the finals and lost at lower divisions. The lack of multiple strong club teams and geography makes it difficult for any team in North Louisiana. All the D-1 champs thru the years resided along the Interstate 10/12 corridors, so it's a geographical fact even more so than private/public.
No dog in the hunt. Nobody can "game the system" in a computer generated seeded system. However, in the days of the old set bracket and everyone did not get a coke and trophy, a certain boy's team's coach, about mid district season would look and see where Jesuit was and would conveniently lose a match in order to go to the other side of the bracket away from Jesuit if needed. Now that is a true definition of "gaming the system". Not that it overly changes your point, but o correct the record Byrd won D1 state for 95/96 soccer season.

By the way, am I missing something something? Does every team get trophies for making the playoffs?

Loyola also made the D2 finals in 2015 when they lost 3-2 to that outstanding Ben Franklin team that had a ridiculous winning streak against Louisiana teams. That was Loyola's only loss that season while playing a tough schedule.

Seeing where district games are being cancelled by teams. Thought all district games had to be played unless a team forfeited. Is this LHSAA way of not having to remove varsity status from schools like McMain?

Just a reminder that the deadline to add games for PR was 1/19. You can still add games towards your total game count. Not sure how many games were put on people's schedules late but there is no designation in the LHSAA system that shows what counts and what does not. I know Loyola vs Evangel on 1/28 is a non PR game. Any others?

People can claim gaming the system, geography, private vs public, but I would be willing to bet the top programs have the following things in common: 1) Work Ethic - they practice in the cold, rain, heat, humidity, mosquitoes, etc. Only exceptions - Bad lightning or dangerous field conditions - they look for alternate practice sites, not excuses to go home. Not uncommon for top teams to practice for two hours in a cold, downpour on muddy fields or blister heat. Multiple times. No complaining. 2) No Snowflakes on the team - Treat injuries, give encouragement. Losing sucks. Learn to hate it. 3) Throw Victory parties, not pity parties. 4) When you're good, you don't care who, or how many you face. 5) Play your WHO DAT games or don't schedule them. 6) Don't make excuses - directed at the liberal, excuse monger who blames "gaming the systems" for his small "stats".
How many times have you heard people disappointed by the talented team with no drive or heart. Many. Never heard anyone disrespect the team with mediocre talent but fights like an animal. The top teams in all divisions have talent but the key is they fight like animals. In closing, hey Game Boy, see you in the State Championship game. Nevermind, you can follow it on the boards.

This is just not true. Power rankings do matter or the playoffs would be seeded by drawing teams out of a hat. To be State Champion you have to beat the teams in your path. There may be upsets.

I enjoy watching the matches but find the power rankings a challenge to decider. Is it better to win against a team at your level or lose 8-0 to a team that is much stronger?

If your level is 8-13 wins a season, and you can beat ~15 teams that will win the same and not lose to anyone with less than 14 wins, then you're set.

My prediction for Div I 1 SSA 2 Byrd 3 Mandeville 4 West Monroe 5 Acadiana 6 Dominican 7 Northshore 8 Mt. Carmel 9 St Joes 10 Lafayette 7-8-9 all will be close and could easily switch spots. It mostly depends on how Mt. Carmel finishes. Baton Rouge could finish 10
1 SSA - Toss up with Byrd for #1 2 Byrd - Games are breaking Byrd's way today 3 Mandeville - Certain on this one... Good win vs. Loyola 4 West Monroe - Will finish here 5 Acadiana - Moves down to 7 - Win vs St Thomas More changes this 6 Dominican - Finishes 5 with a win or tie vs Mt. Carmel. C ant make 4 now.7 Northshore - Going to be 8 or 9. 8 Mt. Carmel - Could finish as high as 5 with 2 wins or as low as 9. I'm thinking 8 or 9 9 St Joes - Tie vs STM moves them up to 6 10 Lafayette - Out of the top 10. Baton Rouge will finish in the 10 spot.

1 SSA - Sticking with this... cancelled games or upsets could make me wrong here 2 Byrd - Could be 1 if things really go their way 3 Mandeville - Certain on this one... Loyola game only matters for other teams 4 West Monroe - Could drop to 5 (see Dominican) but I think they stay here 5 Acadiana - Moves down to 6 - Tie vs Ascension Episcopal hurts 6 Dominican - Finishes 5 with a win or tie vs Mt. Carmel could be 4 if things really go their way. 7 Northshore - Not getting much help. Could be 7, 8 or 9. Remaining games bring PR down. 8 Mt. Carmel - Could finish as high as 5 with 2 wins or as low as 9. I'm thinking 8 or 9 9 St Joes - Could finish as high as 5 but needs to beat STM. I don't see that happening. Good chance to be at 7 10 Lafayette - Out of the top 10. Baton Rouge will finish in the 10 spot. I concur. The Dominican vs Mt Carmel game, which I see as a toss up , will shape much of the top 10 in D1. One exception: I’ve got Byrd as #1 by a smidgeon of 0.03.

Are you counting the Slidell Hammond game? Its a district game that was postponed a while back. Doesn't matter who wins it helps SSA. Question is will it get played?

The airline v Natchitoches cancellation also helps SSA.
