Div II seems to have a few really great teams, one or two ok teams, and then a lot of struggling teams. Why is that?...I'm puzzled........................... It's easy. It a number game. DI has 59 teams, compared to 33 teams for DII and 41 for DIII. Why? It's because of 5A, 4A, 3A and below classification. DIII seems to be deeper than DII because it has more teams combining 3A and 2A (and A, B, C) schools. Out of the most recent Top 10, four teams are 3A (Newman, St. L, EDW, and Teurlings C.), five teams are 2A (Univ, STA, St.M, OC, and ST.F), and one team is B (ESA). Another reason is private vs. public thing. All Top 10 schools in DIII are private (if you say University is "public," that 's true, only technically). DII Top 10 lists a few private schools but more public schools. Private schools are small, typically C through 3A. Soccer is more popular among private school kids. I am not sure if schools in the bottom in DII Top 10 would make the list in DIII.
