In the second half of that game there were a couple goals scored, an injury, a yellow card and a PK. That's why there was extra time. I've been on both sides of those "extra time" goals affecting the outcome and it can be painful. However, that's why we play the game and our girls never gave up. As far as the ref not allowing us to sub, Wow, just wow. When I challenged him about the decision, he literally pulled some cash out of his pocket and said "I bet you $75 that I made the right call." Definitely has to be the funniest rebuttal from any ref that I've ever heard of. Oh and my response was "Hey, let's make it $100 and look up the rule together" HAHA. BTW good luck to Mark and his girls at McGehee. Good group of kids right there.

McGehee got double screwed on Monday night. Hahnville (DI) and McGehee (DIV) played a very competitive game to end the season. A minute and 30 seconds over the 40 minute time frame Hahnville scored a goal to tie the game 2-2, the last kick of the game. The ref should know that no extra time is added in high school soccer and there was no reason for extra time to be added. The win would have moved McGehee up to around 4th in the rankings (it would have been a 19 point game) and given them a first round bye. Instead they finished 9th. Finishing 9th they should get the 24th ranked team (the last team to make the playoffs) but instead because Runnels only scheduled 15 games and had 1 cancelled, thus playing 14, they moved to 24th and now McGehee gets to play a team with the 16th highest power point ranking. LHSAA needs to take a look at this scenario because you are penalizing the teams with more points to make up for the scheduling issues of the team that did a poor job of scheduling enough games. I know this may seem like a minor issue but Pope John Paul (ranked 10) beat the team that McGehee should have played 8-0. I certainly believe that Runnels is a much better team then that. Additionally, in the same game the same ref did not know the yellow card rule and did not allow Hahnville to sub a player in when one of their players received a yellow card. They played a player down for several minutes before another player was allowed to sub. LHSAA need to do a better job of making sure the refs know the rules of the games that they are officiating. There were three goals, an extended injury stoppage, and a caution in the second half of that game. At all 5 instances the time is supposed to be stopped until play restarts.
A minute and 30 seconds is probably not enough time.

A better fix in the future would be to eliminate teams from playoffs who don’t play 15 games. Weather/cancellations. Blah blah. No excuses.
