Bottom line is this: we all have our preferences on how we approach potential mercy rule games and how we act during the matches.
For my boys, we typically let the starters play until it's 3 or 4-0. After that, I completely empty my bench, 2-3 guys at a time for the next few stoppages (I try not to do complete line changes, but have done it before trying to rush guys on the field). Since we have 26 on my Varsity roster, we have plenty of reserves who can get in and play. I typically let them play normal until they score 2 goals. After that, I put some restrictions on them. If they get to an 8 goal lead, fine. If not, fine. Either way is good with me. No one (winner or loser) likes being in that situation.
I hope we can all at least agree on this: try not to embarrass the opposing team by unnecessarily celebrating after each goal. Whatever way your team is scoring (10+ passes, crosses, bench player, etc.), score the goal, give your high five, and get back on your side of the field ready for kickoff.
I've been on both sides of a mercy rule. It's not fun either way. In my opinion, as long as you're not trying to embarrass the other team, I think you're okay in the end.

Mercy rule was definitely in full effect two years ago when Shugeknight01 was treating DME like he was a piñata at a quinceanera.

8-0 is a “mercy” ruling in LHSAA soccer, why isn’t the same rule applied to LHSAA football when teams are up by 8 touchdowns...?

Do softball and baseball have the 10 run rule in LHSAA? I don't think volleyball or basketball or football has a mercy. Track and field no. Wrestling no I don't think. Golf (I'd have to forfeit by the 3rd hole).

This is not just a Louisiana thing. Coming from Texas where there is no HS mercy rule in soccer, I have seen some absolutely ridiculous scores. Some people have no concept of sportsmanship. What do they say about common sense???
