Shame the Lions dont count in Ascension psrish, but hey-Division I is the only soccer being played in LA Sorry coach. I typically follow and promote public schools, specifically D-1 because theyâre at a significant disadvantage and I know those teams the best. The thread is open to everyone that has something positive to add so feel free to share your articles.

Pokle- you should speak less to things you don't really know about. I don't try to speak of the environment of the Pineville/Alexandria area, as Ive never been there other than an overnight. You've not been a resident in Ascension Parish, so you don't know.
This is typical of the racist and elitist attitudes that existed in Ascension Parish for years. Its not just soccer. There are 6 High schools in Ascension Parish--4 public and 2 private (4 that play soccer). The sports media coverage is TREMENDOUSLY skewed toward the three large East bank, predominantly white, public schools. The other three get scraps for reporting. Ive coached at 2 of the large publics and 1 private in the AP and Ive seen it first hand.
Now am I calling gallstar a racist? ABSOLUTELY NO-but his ideas like many others in our parish, and how he communicates them may get influenced by the biases that exist here--either openly or subliminally. Elitist? maybe so, and again maybe not on purpose, but again just a product of the environment.
As for my statement about D1--Ill stand by that every minute. Too many folks here act as though Division I is the only level of soccer that matters in LA. I personally think its the least intriguing--basically D1 is a march to see who gets beaten by St Pauls or Jesuit in the end. And the minute you tell me those remaining teams that do well in their respective sports deserve the media accolades they get, you then reinforce my point.
It exists that way in East Baton Rouge as well, with the Advocate covering Catholic High, University, St Josephs almost exclusively, with a (very) few pieces thrown in about those schools and sports that are having a decent season. Elitist coverage biased to the most exclusive schools
Media coverage should be even and unbiased. We should be asking why more schools ARENT getting more coverage...even if its just reporting their scores. Thats what grows the sport.

It has been my experience in N. LA that you get coverage when you share information and have open consistent dialogue with the sports writers. They are typically not soccer people so they are willing to do a story if they get information. If you are sitting back and waiting for them to reach out to you it may be a long wait. If you want scores posted you have to send them in etc. Not saying anything specific about this situation...just what I have noticed up here. You have to be the advocate for your program. Press secretary is a parent volunteer position for us every year.

Well St. Paul will still be featured in the article and if the Blue Birds get credit for their best win âa 3-0 forfeitâ then maybe theyâll still be in the poll. Canât wait for Dutchtown to go pay them a real visit. Go Griffins!!

Press secretary is a parent volunteer position for us every year. It is basically the same in Baton Rouge. University has a parent send in scores to the Advocate. They may send a reporter to our game with Episcopal Wednesday if they know and they may send one Saturday when we play St Louis again if they know. They start being more proactive come playoffs. So the schools that get coverage I suspect are the ones that are diligent about sending in scores.

We do the following at St. Amant: live stream every game, have a Twitter mom, a Facebook granny and a real big mouth on La Prep. Then we give the sports writers access to the press box and all the Gator Nachos they can stand. On top of that Iâve actually helped the writer via in game conversations. We also provide the press with a complete roster for both teams. Did I mention we snap chat the refs? Now if I can get Alan to let me on a show and talk about rankings and how St. Amant wasnât at full strength vs St. Paul welllll........who knows where we might show up?
