This has been a complete nightmare and I wouldn’t wish this upon anyone! To see your players hurt and crushed toward the end of the season because everything they’ve worked for has been negated over a detail that was overlooked. The last thing you want to see is your team punished for something completely out of their control. The punishment should be for one person and that is me.
Coaches, no matter how busy we get or who we put in charge, check over every one of your players eligibility. Obviously this was a costly mistake that could have been prevented on the front end. We must be more careful in how we deal with eligibility because the punishment affects everyone! Now that two schools/programs have been effected this season, know that it can happen to anyone if we are not careful.
I want to personally apologize to the entire soccer community and to all those effected by the games forfeited. Once it was brought to our attention, we self-reported and hoped for the best. The best was not the outcome we had hoped for but it is the rule and we must accept it and move on. We will learn from this and hope that no one will make this kind of mistake again.
If you get anything from reading this, I hope it’s to ensure that every detail about eligibility is taken seriously at your school and looked over by several sets of eyes before it is submitted.
Good luck to all those wrapping up district play and best of luck to everyone in the playoffs!

You have gained a lot of respect, and will be back stronger then ever.

Seems that most years at least one team has an eligibility issue and hopes that LHSAA will go easy as they self report the issue. LHSAA will never go easy. So coaches, ADs, principals, do your job so that LHSAA doesn’t have to punish your team because of your mistakes.

I would disagree that all schools self-report hoping that the LHSAA will go easy on them. In ASH’s case, I am sure that they self-reported because they broke a rule due to a clerical oversight and self reported because it was the right thing to do.

The penalty for not self reporting is much worse, so of course schools will self report when they discover the error. Was not meant as a criticism of AHS, my post was general in nature and not intended to highlight any single school. When my son was a senior a million years ago, his school had an issue with a foreign exchange student and they were bounced from playoff contention as a result, they had self reported as well. The wise LHSAA said “file a hearing appeal and we will here the appeal.” They scheduled the appeal for 3 days after they had released the brackets and the first round of layoffs were underway. Yeah, guess how that appeal went.
