About two weeks ago, St. Michael was heading over to U. High to challenge them for the district title. Here we are two weeks later, and St. Michaels is heading back to U. High to challenge them in the single-elimination playoffs. A win by St. Michaels would land them in the round of 8. There have been whispers of missing players from the first contest. How significant of players and how many of them haven't been answered, so I'm going to assume the number to be 4. I'll put one new better player on each line and bench the least impressive players to form the new St. Michaels in my mind for picking purposes.
U. High has been the best team in D-3 over the last 2-3 weeks of the season. They've tied Catholic, Beat Baton Rouge 2-0, beat Parkview soundly, beat St. Michaels soundly and beat Episcopal by 2. This is starting to feel like a dynasty, and becoming a dynasty starts with beating teams you're better than often and early. Don't let them hang around but rather come right out the gate and stomp on them. I am watching U. High vs. St. Michaels, in the first contest, the difference in speed of play, size, and overall physical strength was very pronounced and all in favor of the cubs.
The one person improvement per line by St. Michaels will not be enough, in my humble opinion. They've not beaten a team like Uhigh all year. U. High had one lousy patch all season, and that was last year. They've not lost since December.
Gallstar predicts 5-0 in favor of the cubs!

I would have to agree with the overall assessment of the UHS speed of play and they have some skilled players. Their size didn't stand out to me as much, just a bit more physical. The Warriors have some equally talented players and a player with even more speed than I have seen from the Cubs. It will just have to all come together for the Warriors to be able to beat a team like the Cubs. Maybe an early goal or a close game going into the 2nd half can provide the confidence they need.

Very proud of the way the Warriors fought tonight and had many opportunities to make this game play out differently. The Cubs played very well and made their shots count. Tough end to a good season. Not to sound too bitter or like a sore loser but, I just didn't expect a coach with this kind of experience to pull out late game tactics like he did. End of game subs of 1 or 2 players at a time to run out the clock in a 4-0 contest! Just saying.

Just FYI: there was literally a rule change to address this — winning team subs in last 5 minutes of game = ref stops clock. So it shouldn’t have made an impact.

Okay the clock stopped and so did the game! Just send in your subs, JV, underclassmen, etc. and let the game continue. And yes I understand when you are up in a tight game to push it to the corner or any delay tactic you want. But its 4 to 0.

Congrats to U-High. They've really been our bogeyman for the last several years. Probably 6 or 7 straight wins against us now.
I thought we had a good gameplan as a coaching staff, and for brief moments it went to plan. But we made a few too many mistakes defensively, and the Cubs were ruthless when we did. Three of the four goals came from us just not clearing our lines effectively or closing down shots quickly enough, and U-High pounced on those opportunities.
We had about 5 or 6 really good chances to score in this game and just couldn't quite convert any of those great chances. We knew we were gonna lose if that happened. Either we barely missed, or a University player swooped in at the last moment to deny a sure goal, otherwise.
I think the sequence that decided the game happened about 15 minutes in. We had a shot from point-blank range on a corner kick. Our best finisher put it just over the goal, when he puts that away probably 90% of the time. About 30 seconds later, they scored to go up 2-0 and we just never got in striking distance again. Our keeper had one of his best games of the year, and there's not much he could have done about any of the 4 goals we conceded.
Credit to Chris Mitchell. This is a pretty young U-High team, and he's already built them into something scary. Would not be shocked at all if they repeat as champions a year after graduating a billion seniors. Good luck to U-High.
I'm proud of our young team responding well this season. Winning 19 games was certainly a lot more enjoyable for everyone than winning only 5 games the year before. They showed a lot of improvement.
