Ending my high school coaching career on an early playoff exit wasn't exactly the riding off in the sunset moment I was hoping for, but that is how the cookie crumbles sometimes and I couldn't be happier of my time coaching at East Jefferson.
First off, I want to thank coach Nick (sissoko ) and his boys for a great, hard fought contest. They were class on and off the field and deserved that win. You can't ask for anything more out of your opponents other than a clean, fun and competitive game and Caddo gave it to us. I wish them well on the rest of their journey throughout the playoffs. The Lafayette referee crew we had were outstanding as well. It was a great game to be apart of.
I want bring to light the man behind the curtain at East Jefferson High School who has been keeping the Warrior soccer program up and running since the early 90's. Jim Dyer (aka D) has put in countless hours over the last 30 years on making sure soccer was available for any and all to play at East Jefferson. His dedication, to not only the soccer program, but to all of the students who have come and gone over the years is exactly what you would expect out of an educator. Every kid that has passed through EJ's halls over the last 30 years more than likely has been helped by D in some way or another. I can't thank him enough for giving me the opportunity to coach at my Alma Mater. Hopefully my time coaching has made up for how bad of a student I was.
Also want to thank the following.
EJ's girls coach Yaz Sarasino (aka mama bear) who has supported the boys program tremendously for the last 10 years. Not only does she juggle coaching her own teams (soccer, softball and cross country) she has gone out of her way to help the boys program with fundraising, scheduling and even coaching. Thanks Yaz and enjoy that new beautiful baby girl.
Coach Jim Barroquere, who served as my assistant coach the two years prior to this one. Appreciate the hard work on helping get these boys up for the challenge and staying on top of them with their academics. It was a fun ride.
Coach Alex "Zig" Zeigler (aka Waraz ) many don't know this but I was Waraz's assistant from 2008-2010 at EJ. I only took over the program for a short stint in 2011 when he left to pursue his ambitions to become a MLB ump. I always admired his ability to get the boys to give everything for him on the field. The players loved playing for Zig and it showed by his success at EJ. Appreciate everything you do for this board as well. Hope beauchenecoach is paying you good money.
Coach Matt "Nippy" Nevins. He doesn't roam these boards, but he's like a brother to me. He was coaching at EJ in 2008 and brought me on to help him out and sparked my love for coaching. He may still hold the record for most goals scored by a freshman at EJ.
Coach Tre Walker (aka the Alexandria dream crusher) my assistant and JV coach for the last two years. A tremendous player in his days at EJ (ain't that right pOkLE ?) and even better mentor for the boys. You have to admire seeing the ambition from former players wanting to give back to the program.
Coach Hisham Abdelaziz who you may remember from that 2014 Grace King team who shocked DI by being the first Jefferson Parish public school to reach the finals. Even today he's regarded as one of the best midfielders, not only in the state, but our region (GCPL legend). He's also one of the most outstanding gentlemen I have had the pleasure of getting to know. A kid who is mature beyond his years, Hisham was a great addition to our team this year and I have no doubt that he and Tre will continue to grow this program and bring a trophy back to room 207 (Dyer's room).
All of the players that I've had the pleasure of coaching and getting to know over the years, can't thank y'all enough for putting your faith in my attempt to bring glory to 400 Phlox St. Loved every minute of it.
All of you coaches who shared with me your knowledge of the game. I can't name all of you, but you know who you are. Also, all who dedicated their time to improving this site. Thank you.
Chris and Billiam, the two headed monster at Third Coast for supporting my coaching endeavors. (Chris is saying "finally, get back to work")
Lastly, I have to thank my wife. None of this would even be possible if it wasn't for her putting up with my ****. And no she doesn't roam these boards...lol
As I say farewell to coaching at East Jefferson, I do not say farewell to the sport. My focus has shifted to my family and to my new venture with Crescent City Football Club. I'll still be heavily involved with scouting the youngsters in our state, encouraging them to keep their careers going and lecturing all of you on why it is important to support the sport outside of youth *cough* Gulf Coast Premier League *cough*
Forever a Warrior!
