Sometimes in life, it’s better to be lucky than good. The best combination is to be both. Then add in 30 plus player depth, and you arrive at Catholic. I watched the last 25 minutes of Catholic vs. BM. The difference was depth. I know the final was 3-2, and the last goal might not have been the prettiest, but if the truth were told, Catholic could have played another 30 minutes with yet another wave of talent and experienced a little drop-off. They’re deeper than St Paul on the depth chart, and they’ve got kids on their JV that would start and never come off the field at every school in the BR area not named Catholic. Some may scoff at this idea, but I know this team as well as in any in the state, and this isn’t a joke. They’ve got so much talent that they could run you with 11 and then run you with 11 more. They did it to BM last night, and over the last 25 minutes, they were playing several backups that are not backup except at Catholic and St. Paul. This is a gift to behold and use vs a very talented Denham side. Depth matters when it’s used!
Denham Springs got passed Captain Shreve on the road and will be properly rewarded with a home game vs their District Runner-ups. I believe this speaks to the top to bottom quality of this district. The fact that 3 of the 4 remaining teams in D-1 are from the Baton Rouge area is even more impressive. The last time Denham hosted the Bears the game was not close. Catholic found a bit of good fortune due to an early red card. The thought that a 5 goal margin could be the result of one player is tough but it gives the host something to rally around. The longer this game goes tied or in favor of Catholic the more I like Catholic. Denham will need to jump on Catholic early in an attempt to deflate and to offset their extreme advantage with regards to depth. Denham and Dutchtown represent the true public schools in the state. Not magnets, no school of choice, no 4 parish districts just the kids from around their school nucleus.
This is why Gallstar will be pulling for Denham on Saturday. I love both teams and know kids on both sides but I’m a firm supporter of the underdogs and that’s Denham in this game. A win here restores hope for all the Public kids as they wonder why not us? Catholic has more talent 1-30 but Denham intends to play with a full eleven the entire contest this time around.
Gallstar picks Catholic 3-1!

I truly believe that even though the Bears beat Denham by a margin of 5 goals last time, and Denham will want revenge, the Bears will want it more. Remember that Denham beat the Bears out in district because of PR ratings. The Bears are looking for revenge on Denham for costing them that district title. Like Gallstar said, Denham will come out firing with all cylinders, and likely that 11 man starting lineup will tire over the lengthy game. If the score is still tied even after regulation, the Bears will keep going and going into overtime.
Catholic 2-0 Denham

I talked with a lot of the Denham Springs parents and players after their loss to Catholic a few weeks ago and as I left the stadium I thought to myself “Denham is probably not a team Catholic wants to meet in the playoffs“. I knew if they met again Axel ,one of their better players, would not get a red card and their team would play with fire in their eyes to get revenge. I also feel that their top four players are roughly equal to Catholic’s top four. I think the best thing that could have happened to Catholic was last nights game. Prior to last nights game they either won the game easily without having to fight for it or, like the first Baton Rouge high game, the Saint Pauls game, and the Zachary game they walked off the field with either a loss or a tie with their heads hanging down but not really having left it on the field to try and get a better result. Last night was the first time I saw the Catholic team really give it all they had to get a victory against a top-notch team that was also giving it 120%. I think given the above circumstances this will be a very hard fought well played game by both teams and the result will definitely not be 6-1 again. I do think Catholic will probably pull it off with a score of about 3-1.

Bumping this back up to the top of the board so we can generate some discussion on the 2nd game of the day to decide who goes on to face St. Pauls in the final.
Haven't seen Denham Spring this year, but Catholic was a solid team even early on at Rebel Cup back in Thanksgiving. This will truly be a battle of the midfield and who can break through the back lines. I think the score line will be like the other D1 semi-final where we have a 3-2 or similar scoreline. As far as a winner...guess we'll just have to see who pulls it out as I can't pick one

I think this game has the chance to get physical Neither team likes each other and wouldn’t surprise me to see a couple red cards especially near the end
Hope both teams leave it all out there

Anyone streaming this game today? Gallstar announced during his broadcast last night that he would be in Denham Springs on Saturday with another broadcast. We'll have to see if there's truth in advertising.

I would be surprised if this game is physical and would doubt there will be any cards or anything close to one.
