Today is an off day; the top teams from each division are preparing for their semifinal contests and there is no soccer to be had once the champions league games are over...or is there? Coming to you live from Ouachita Parish High School at 5pm we have SEMIFINAL action! The prodigal son of Louisiana Athletics, River Oaks High School of Monroe, plays in the semifinals of the MAIS (Mississippi Association of Independent Schools) playoffs in what may be their last run before joining back in with the LHSAA! They will be taking on the visitors from Greenwood, MS, the Delta Streets Academy Lions! Which sounds pretty gangster if you ask me. All those boys can say "I'm from the streets."

You better report! It could be epic. That's what I'm here for. I know most of the kids from River Oaks and will probably never know any of the kids from Delta Streets so holding no punches tonight!

I've heard of MAIS but had never heard of Delta Streets Academy, so I did some research. A new school, all-male, mostly African-American in Greenwood, MS. Here's one of the articles linked on the Wikipedia page: world.wng.org/2017/06/creating_a_new_pattern

Their team looks to be primarily Hispanic with a couple African-Americans. I'm glad they are getting the chance to play!

Preparing for kickoff. The refs are in old yellow uniforms with the black vertical strip, the River Oaks Mustangs are in Adidas uniforms that are not from Third Coast Soccer, and the Delta Streets Lions are in white tops and black shorts besides their bench players that are still wearing the clear trashbags that the team warmed up in due to the rain.

Volley attempt from 35 yards out by Speedy Gonzales for River Oaks, looked close. (Imagine Speedy Gonzales playing soccer and that's what this kid is)

Long throw for the Mustangs headed just wide. On the ensuing goalkick the Lions play a long ball to noone.

The Streets have their own version of Heavy Chevy/F-250. I'll name him El Gordy, as I type this he stumbles into a tackle, trips over the ball and shows great nimbleness as he somersaults to his feet.

Great through ball by the Lions but the keeper comes out and clears for a counter attack the other way which Speedy G swings and misses on in front of goal.

#34 for Streets with some trickery in the corner to get a cross off, but his forward is offside.

Yes! A Lion player jumps up for a ball in the air and completely misses. This is what I'm used to seeing on this field from teams with the mascot of Lions.

The fans have set up a living community in our stands and our custodian seems skeptical but will deal with it.

Crap, I forgot to start the clock again....I'm just gonna guess and the refs will have to deal with it if parents complain.

A couple players for the Streets are sporting ninja style headgear and running with their arms straight behind them. Okay the latter is not true....

River Oaks sticking with a diamond back four. They have effectively been 4v0 the entire game as Delta Streets continues to play without a striker. Spain 2010 anyone?
