I’d love to hear the refs explanation on that second PK. Really made a mess of it

This was a fun game, but certainly not without controversy.
Even the Episcopal fans I sat with (including a referee with many years’ experience) felt that the first penalty should not have been called. The keeper got to the ball first and cleanly, but the angle he took and the ferocity with which he pounced on the loose ball maybe made the contact look more egregious to the center referee than it really was.
Episcopal BR was able to get some great chances after being persistent in looking for through balls, and put two of those away. In contrast, Christ Episcopal struggled to generate much at all from the run of play.
I was very impressed with # 1 for Christ Episcopal, who was the smallest on the field, but made a huge impact. He found himself in the right spot and calmly finished two goals with the composure of a skilled upperclassmen. Watch out for him in the future! I didn’t have their roster in front of me, but Christ Episcopal seems like a young group with a bright future.
I’m still not sure exactly what led to the penalty call for Episcopal BR’s third goal. The play started with a free kick into the box, which the keeper bobbled, and the ball was put into the net after the keeper was knocked down. At first, we thought the whistle was either confirming the goal or negating it for a foul. But that wasn’t the case. The center referee consulted his AR and awarded a penalty. I can only speculate that there was a foul away from the ball that none of us noticed. Christ Episcopal were understandably furious about this, having already conceded a questionable goal from a penalty.
The game got chippy with many yellow cards shown, but thankfully, no red cards. Credit to the CE boys for mostly keeping their composure in a very frustrating situation.
The Knights will move on to play the winner of Newman and Catholic NI in the Division IV Final next Saturday. Episcopal last played for the title in 2017 (with a loss to St. Louis) and last won it in 2013 in overtime against Newman.

Thanks to the Bisson family for inviting me into the warm press box to defrost.
Many of y’all will remember Trevor Bisson for his prolific career at Episcopal, including playing through the playoffs with a broken arm and still scoring in the title game.
