Not being familiar with MLS rules, are there restrictions in place on scouting/importing academy players from outside of your region? Or is it a general lack of European-type academy systems present in the US?

I had an 8th grader last season at Lusher who was absolutely phenomenal, and he ended up moving to Atlanta to play for their Academy team.

If a kid from LA but moved to New York to train, LA market teams have rights to him under Home Grown contract rules. I think. 😂
Louisiana is a free market. Meaning our kids can go anywhere

Meaning our kids can go anywhere My understand of the rules (given to me by a illegal xoach and ex DOC in Dallas) is when you live in a area that has a MLS team, and you play club, regardless of what club, your rights are with that MLS team, and require a waiver to be signed by a different MLS team. So, that LA kid would have to move to NY, establish himself in NY on a new club team/new club year to get away from LAFC. Or get them to release him. It’s a overly protective system that does need repair. And yes Louisiana is free if all that.

So those players that play under the Dynamo teams in Lafayette are still free to go wherever?

I believe so, LSA doesn’t fall under control of the rules that apply. And if I wasn’t clear. ALL players in a given area are subject to this. So if you are a member of the Dallas Texans club team, you are still bound to FC Dallas. And so on. Not just FC Dallas youth club memebers.
