Louisiana soccer might not be so bad after all “its defining results were against out-of-state teams. The Wolves defeated Florida 5A champ Tampa Jesuit 5-1 and twice defeated Mississippi 6A champ Ocean Springs. St. Paul's also defeated SIMA FAB 50-ranked Naples (Fla.) and Florida Class 7A state semifinalist Lakewood Ranch.” www.topdrawersoccer.com/high-school-soccer/national-team-rankings/men

That’s an incredible honor to win a winter soccer national championship. Congrats to Coach moser and thank you for helping put Louisiana soccer on top of the map! Us coaches have always known the talent this state can produce. Glad to be recognized finally through St. Paul’s!

I think they are ranked #1 for states who have winter soccer season, there are only 7 states out of the 50 that play Winter season. But it’s still great for the state .

I think they are ranked #1 for states who have winter soccer season, there are only 7 states out of the 50 that play Winter season. But it’s still great for the state . I know, based only on 7 states, sheesh. These 7 are likely the weakest in the country when it comes to soccer. Top Drawer and MaxPreps should just not give a ranking during the winter soccer season, right. As you implied, it's great for a Louisiana team to be ranked the 1st, even if they play during the weakest soccer season with the worst States for playing soccer.
Hey Bubba, "not a national championship, just rankings based by the good people at top drawer". Yah, how could these people possibly know how good any team is, right. Since 99% of the teams never leave their home State to play games, how accurate could these dudes possibly be. Louisiana plays in the winter season, so you know it's with a weak bunch of soccer States. Who in their right mind would rank a soccer team from Louisiana #1, right.
These are the other six lowly winter soccer season States: California Arizona Texas Mississippi Florida Hawaii How could anyone expect these States to compete against the fall and spring season States. You'd be lucky not to be committed for a psych analysis.
My sarcasm finished, I remember when they were first ranked #1 in MaxPreps and the detractors, similar to your statements, said it was hollow because of their SIMA Fab 50 ranking (somewhere around 25 that season). Fast-forward to this year and remarkably they have made it to #1 in both ranking systems as I type this (they may very well drop in the SIMA Fab 50 final national rankings). Here is a list of their winter season rankings as of today:
MaxPreps #1 SIMA Fab 50 #1 (national, regional and state) USA Today-United Soccer Coaches #3
Not bad for a team from Louisiana, not bad at all.

Hats off to SPS for having such a quality program and quality players. The players should be proud of how hard they work and what they have accomplished.
That said, by no means would I go around boasting about the quality of soccer in LA. On the men's side, we very rarely produce professional or even Division I players. I have lived in other states where the general level of play is much higher. In most states, the best players play in US Soccer Development Academies year round. They aren't allowed to play high school soccer. That means over 20,000 of the country's best players don't play high school soccer. Most of the parents and players I speak to don't understand how soccer has a different development pipeline than football or baseball.
So we should be proud of SPS and their accomplishments, but we also need to open our eyes to the reality regarding the general level of play in our state. It is far from great in my opinion.

No one said anything about "great" soccer. However, to your point about Academy teams, I have seen first hand our club teams beat these Academy teams and win showcase brackets/tournaments. This does not mean soccer in Louisiana, on a whole, is on par with them, rather it further proves there are quality players in this State, when given the proper coaching and environment to grow. These Academies are not free and usually have a substantial cost to attend (more than our private school tuition). Cost prohibitiveness has been a hot topic on the board this year and Academies make it even costlier. As has been stated before on this site, until a club team from Louisiana wins Region III and performs well at the National finals, we will be battling an uphill challenge. Additionally, many cities, where soccer is generally better, have a population almost equal to or larger than our State does. A larger player pool is a huge benefit.
As for playing in college, many if not most of the H.S. coaches have few if any connections to college coaches. Our kids can put themselves out there on the internet, yet most won't even get a cursory look when the coach sees Louisiana. This is the cold hard truth. That said, Louisiana soccer is getting better and over time will catch up with the rest of the country. We just need to keep up the good work.

Not bad for a team from Louisiana, not bad at all. In terms of soccer, Texas, Florida, Arizona, and California are probably four of the best, if not THE best, soccer states in the country. I'm not trying to be rude or anything but since when are they the weakest?

Nobody ever appreciates greatness when it’s happening. The reason is simple. You were hoping they would fail. Well I’ve rooted against them in every game except vs Jesuit and when they represented our state abroad. That said they won them all and are truly a dynasty. Enjoy it if you can because I think this was the best high-school team in the history of the state. I know there are some that may have an opposing opinion but there is one thing for certain. Nobody tied them and Nobody beat them!

No one is doubting they are the best High School soccer team in Louisiana, They have more club players than anyone that have been professionally trained from an early age, a lot of them are on the same top club team so they have chemistry. They are the BEST High School team in the entire State. But Best in the Nation?!? Don't think so, They are ranked 1 for Winter Season Soccer. I bet they are better than most in this 7 state group too. Being the Best in Louisiana is a dubious honor at this point, until Louisiana elevates its overall soccer people in the 43 other states will not respect us.

I know who made the username for the post just above this one but I will pretend I don’t know....ha.
That is why Top Drawer soccer explained ranking St. Paul’s number 1 at this time below
“its defining results were against out-of-state teams. The Wolves defeated Florida 5A champ Tampa Jesuit 5-1 and twice defeated Mississippi 6A champ Ocean Springs. St. Paul's also defeated SIMA FAB 50-ranked Naples (Fla.) and Florida Class 7A state semifinalist Lakewood Ranch.”
California Champ Cathedral congratulated St. Paul’s as well......they know who we are.

Been on site off and on for a few weeks looking for district, metro and parish stuff. Let me say one thing about the natl champ posts... St Paul's has been top one or two on maxpreps for 6-7 years based on the schedule we play (ms, fl, tx, and ca) and we've been top 3 in US soccer coaches association poll. Top Drawer has always been the standard bc they have reporters attend the hs natl trnys and have dckd on our lack of scoring and pk wins for a few years. And since we've gone 5-1 in the last 2 natl trnys, 67-1-2 in the last 2 years and undefeated this year, we got the nod. Are we the best team in the country?? No. But could we beat the best teams in the country? Yes. Peace

No need to defend it as it is an awesome accomplishment. Congratulations St Pauls Soccer. It makes LA soccer look better and lifts everyone. Well done!
