Hi all,
I am in the middle of starting back up a soccer program at my would-be D-II school (if covid doesn’t hinder this), and the Athletic Director of my school told me that new Sports teams must play 2 years as JV squads before competing in Varsity athletics.
I have tried to look all over LHSAA’s website but can’t find anything about this rule, does anyone have any knowledge on this topic?
The school hasn’t had a program since 2012ish

The school hasn’t had a program since 2012ish If the school is a current LHSAA member in good standing and hasn’t cut out the sport in the last 2 seasons, you should be able to declare to play. People always confuse the applying to be an LHSAA member school and killing off a sport penalty with a school just trying to start back up after the 2 year period. What school is this if you don’t mind me asking?

Northside High of Lafayette. It is my understanding that the previous programs of the early 2010s have been pretty poor in terms of communication and things of that nature. Contact with admin has been pretty good so far though so fingers crossed.

While it’s probably too late to join district for next year as district scheduling meeting has already happened... it’s important to declare to play to be placed in reclassification processes ad assigned a District for the next 2 years after this season. The 2 year no varsity team has long passed since Northside stopped their soccer programs... you shouldn’t have to be JV for 2 years. But by being this late in process, after district scheduling is done, it could be too late to be competing for district honors in 2020-2021 season. But def should be able to be a varsity program right away. Send me your info via private message and we can talk...

Actually, I’m pretty certain Northside would be current Division III as their enrollment numbers in 2018 reclassification were lower than BC and BC is the smallest D2 school in boys soccer. So the district they would be assigned to would have prob been Teurlings boys District in D3. New numbers in 2020 will reclassify for 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons this winter.
