At best, HS soccer in LA may be a spring sport this year...if we play at all. Its gonna take a lot of change in the state to get to phase 4. The same amount of time has elapsed since the start of the Covid19 epidemic in Louisiana and today as there is from today to the start of the playing season. We are going in the wrong direction right now. There will be no football this fall in LA......bank on it. So wear the flipping mask!

The thought of the protocols for soccer, basketball, and WRESTLING being the same has me scratching my head.

Volleyball seems like more of a transmission risk than soccer.

The thought of the protocols for soccer, basketball, and WRESTLING being the same has me scratching my head. NFHS has 3 groupings of sports. Soccer is in the middle grouping. LHSAA used only 2 groupings, that’s why we got stuck in with wrestling and football. If they would go to the NFHS model of 3 groups, we’d have a decent shot at playing. Anyone have an idea how to get them to do this?? Maybe get with basketball coaches and work together, as they are in the same boat as we are.

The grouping is unfortunate and worries me more than anything I have seen to this point.

It’s not state phase 4... its phase 4 of the k-12 reopening plan... its still a small shot football season could happen in fall... with a few week delay to all seasons...
My bet is on spring and fall sports swapping. Winter staying as scheduled.

Btw... if anyone wants to participate in an Ochsner research study with free Covid screening and antibody testing: testbr.org/They have testing sites around the BR area. They will redo the NOLA study in a month or so for those in the NOLA area.

Winter staying as scheduled. can you explain the difference between state phase 4 and phase 4 of k-12 reopening plan I believe Louisiana has 3 phases and pretty much follows the White House plan. There is no phase 4, but whatever is beyond phase 3 would probably be a complete return to normal when we no longer even need phases. The LHSAA phase 4 is really just two or three stable weeks in phase 3.

I think LSA won’t do anything in the fall, too nervous and they didnt get included in the no lawsuit legislation. Our best chance to play is to get lhsaa to adopt the NFHS 3 Tier system of sports. Where soccer is in the middle tier, we could team up with basketball and push for the change (they have the same problem we do) But district only, there are districts with like 2-3 teams, it’s not worth the practice for just a couple games.

That would be a start, with both the basketball and soccer coaches associations making a plea to them. Lhsaa keeps saying they are following the NFHS guidelines, but in the case of separating sports they took the easy way out contact/noncontact. When if they just adopted the 3 risk tier system, we can play in phase 3, not have to wait til phase 4 whatever that is.

Soccer folks need to start applying pressure. No way should soccer have to wait until the end of phase 3 (in phase 3 then 2 more weeks of a downward trend). It needs to be changed so that soccer is good to go once phase 3 starts. If people don’t start pushing for this, then it won’t happen.
