Nice pun Coach Ray...
BUT...NO I will not be nice to them!
They are supposed to be a PROFESSIONAL organization and they do not operate like one.
I will not be satisfied that they covered 4 games when soccer has been going on in the area since November.
I think tomorrow after the game I'll start working on an Editorial...that it will SHOCK me if they print it.
I'll post it here also when I'm done. Those that know me know I am a "quiet type" that usually doesn't voice my opinion too much. This may be a fight I decide to "begin" voicing it.

Good luck, Pitch. You may be surprised to see your letter on the paper. They are quite flexible and have published most of my letters in the past (well, nothing about soccer, but some of them were quite critical of the paper).

I don't consider this "trying"...the Advocate serves a metropolitan area and should be doing more.
Below is the text to the Letter to the Editor that I just summitted that I don't expect to be printed, but you never know....
There is a strong inequality in high school sports coverage by the Advocate. The traditional sports gain all of the coverage. Football is covered extensively with countless articles during their season. In the winter months, Basketball is the sport we read about almost every day. Where is the soccer coverage? High School Soccer began their season in November. There are approximately 44 girls and boys teams in the Baton Rouge Metro area. Of these 11 are currently ranked in their respective poll's TOP TEN of the state. There is lots to be proud about in our area's soccer. However, this newspaper, the Advocate, has carried only 4 articles to date to this reader's knowledge. The first not happening until around the week of Christmas. The argument that there are not enough people to cover games does not "hold water". The same people that cover basketball could cover soccer and print less basketball. You do not have to have a lot of "soccer knowledge" to print a basic article about the game. In the Advocate's defense they do accept game scores to print in the paper's box score section, but this is not equal to the articles other sports recieve, including football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, wrestling, etc. I'm asking the Advocate to "step to the plate" and cover many more soccer games. Its not a matter of readership. Very few people read the game articles in any of the sports except those directly related to the schools. Go to the schools and get students involved. Most high schools have a journalism department. Give the students a chance to get involved with the community paper. Reach out to the community because there are people that could cover the games and write the articles to your satisfaction and would not require but a minimal effort on your part. Finally, I ask the fans of soccer in Baton Rouge to "step up" and have your voices heard. Let the Advocate know that you too see the inequality in high school sports articles. Give Soccer its due.

well said Pitchstalker... both the boys and girls baton rouge teams deserve a lot more press for their outstaning performances. hopefully your letter will spark some nice articles in the weeks leading up to playoffs so teams can start to see their hard work recognized by the community.

St Amant 5 Central 1
Never a doubt here--St Amant played a very good, very controlled game throughout, dominated possesion and generated many scoring opportunities. Central played well, but had no answers for the Gator attack. Interesting play of the game--Central awarded a PK for a dive in the box. Player shoots the ball, and St Amant Keeper jake Savoy makes the save, giving up small rebound. Central player went for the ball, but went in spikes up(Savoy saved the rebound). Referee gives immediate red card to the central player.. I wasnt sure of the call from my angle, but Savoy showed me the marks on his neck after the game. That play finished Central off. St Amant used JV players down the stretch.
St Amant is 11-2-2, 8-1 in district and plays against Catholic High on Wednesday at Burbank park.
